Sandy, I didn't know about the possible reading of archived messages. How does one access them? Thanks. Sue in CA
Sheila, John's answer was "No," when I asked him if he had been contacted by anyone before now when I was asking him if it was okay to copy the book pages to anyone if they asked as he had just given me permission to copy it for others. He is not that upset, just wished it had been cleared before info & addresses given out on the internet about possible availability of the book. Remember, Ruth Westbrook wrote out Wanda B. Oates address & phone #'s. Wanda of her choice, gave me John's phone #. For the info; the book is in the Los Angeles Public Library and the San Francisco Public Library in CA. Sue in CA
Good morning, Everyone, I made 2 phone calls this morning: Wanda B. Oates whose husband is a cousin of John's is definitely not able to do anything about getting a copy of the book that John Martin Oates, Jr., wrote on "John George Kornegay 1670 - 1711". She gave me John's phone # and I called him and we talked about 15 minutes. Because he did not make any $ on having the bound books done on the first go around, is the reason for not doing more books. He has agreed to do a loose sheet copy of the book for me for $25. I am going to purchase it anyway because he gave me permission to copy anything from it to anyone who requests any info from the book. In fact he gave a blanket permission for anyone who already has the book to go ahead and copy from the book to anyone's request. His attitude is "it is for sharing". One of the things I would also mention is that John Oates said he was not real happy about the information being given out on the internet about the possibility of people being able to get a copy of the book from him or Wanda. He felt that he should have been talked with before that ever happened. He was very gracious and said he was willing to help me at this point though. So I will have a copy of the book by next week. This was a lesson to be learned by everyone this week. Sue Meinhart in southern CA
Sue, I forwarded that email. I received it the first of May from Barbara who lives in Fla. She doesn't belong to the Kornegay-L but I invited her to join today. Loretta Souder on this list had inquired about Mary Magdalena Kornegay and I thought maybe she could get in touch with Barbara. Her address is on the email. Hopefully she will join our list. It sounds like she has a lot of information. Good! The more the merrier and the more info that can be shared. Sue in CA

Mr John Martin Oates, Jr of Mt. Olive, N. C. told me that he was not having any more of the Kornegay books printed. You may contact Wanda B. Oates, ( I believe she is John's neice) 9588 Suttontown Rd Hwy 50 North Faison, N. C . 28341 Phone 9105940877 Fax 9105940730 Wanda may be able to help you get a copy of John George Kornegay 1670-1711 The Palatine Immigrant by John Martin Oates, Jr. Ruth At 12:55 AM 5/19/98 -0400, you wrote: >Can anyone tell me how much this book is to purchase? Sue, The book was $12.00. I was so grateful to get the book I sent $15 to help cover postage. Ruth told me about the book being for sale or I would have never known about it. It would definitely be a book to buy but there aren't any left. When I bought mine he had 7 left. Those are long gone. The story he told me was that in doing research on his line he accumulated this information on the Kornegays. He wanted it to be of use to someone so he had it printed to place in libraries and I guess sold a few. He had such a big demand he did a second printing. We got the last few. Bob, If I can get permission from Mr. Oates to copy his book in total it would be available to anyone interested. The book does not say it is copyrighted but I think we would still need permission. I feel his answer will be yes. In the meantime, from what I understand, it is okay to quote portions of a book. I typed the "index" but Ruth is right. There are a lot of names in the book that are not listed in the "index". It would be nice to have a complete index. Sandy
According to the Oates Book on the Kornegay's Jacob Kornegay was married 2 times. "Note: Jacob Kornegay (1734 -1796) married first, Elizabeth Fontaine" Marriage bond (Duplin Co,NC) date 7-19-1777 indicates marriage to Mary Ward
Hello I am searching for info on Frances Ann KORNEGAY who married Blaney Williams in 1846/7 they had 2 children: James Cicero Williams and Francis Williams. Blaney divorced Frances Ann and married Mary Catherine KORNEGAY in Spring of 1856. They also had 2 children: Georgianne Williams and John B. Williams. Mary Catherine had a son William J. KORNEGAY. Would appreciate any information on these 2 KORNEGAY women. Were they possibly related??? Gayle W. Licari

HI Ruth, That is correct about the 2 marriages for Capt. Jacob Kornegay. Mary Ward is a descendant of Luke Ward & Brigett Draughon. Wonder if anyone knows the father of Mary Elizabeth Fontaine? Thanks again. Sue in CA
Sandy, I am interested in something in your email on the index. It lists the middle name of the last person as "Cogdell" My grandmother on my fathers maternal side name was Carrie Cogdell Woodrick. I've always thought that was a strange name for a middle name. I wonder if there is any connection. Sheila
