Hello Matt, I am descended from those same relatives. I am a half first cousin to Ruthie Brewer, Inez Brooks, and Elner Crisp from Arkansas. I think the lady I met at the John Ward Kornegay/Narcissa Smalley reunion was your sister, Roxy Ward Hey, several years ago. I don't know if you've seen the Kornegay Web page put up by Jerry Quinn but it is at http://www.ddaccess.com/jbquinn/Kornegay.htm. Also he is hosting a chat session at 8:00 p.m. EST. I don't think anyone has asked for the URL to the chat session on the list (I forgot and asked privately) so I am asking for it now. Jerry, could you please post the URL? My line is John Ward Kornegay - William Alfred Kornegay - William Houston Kornegay. I have the same grandfather as the AR cousins, my dad's mother was Florence Reeves and she died when he was about 1 year old. Hi Ruth, My Thornton line comes out of NY to OH and over to SD & down to TX. Most of the Thornton line is centered in Oneida Co., NY, and Wood County, OH. It is connected to the Matthew Thornton, signer of the Declaration of Independence. The family came out of Ireland and settled mostly in New Hampshire, New Jersey, & New York. I am communicating with Thornton people still in Oneida Co., NY. right now. My GG-Grandfather, Israel Thornton was one of 5 brothers who did the trek from Dutchess Co., NY over to Wood Co., OH in the 1830s and there they spent the rest of their lives and over 500 descendants are buried in Fort Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, Wood Co., OH. I have never tried to follow on that branch of Thorntons in NC. Probably some are connected but don't know how yet. Thanks for letting me know. Sue in CA
You can get into the line for Sue Meinhart by leaving out the "/index.html". It should be done as www.familytreemaker.com/users/m/e/i/M-S-Meinhart This will take you directly to the beginning page of my homepage. At the bottom of the page is some reports. Look at my Ancestors of Martha "Sue" Thornton report. This will have what you are looking for. Good luck Sue in CA
Dear Matt, Can we get you line? Sincerely, Lori

Bob Erwin >> I, too, did a lot of research in an effort to connect Bryan Ward, the husband of the Cherokee Gighau Nancy Ward, to my line of Bryan (aka Bryant) Ward descendants. I have concluded that the Bryant Ward (son of John and Rockalena Ward) is definitely not the same person. However, I continue to search for a connection. I do know that my Bryant was apparently born in Georgia because this is what he stated to a census taker in Smith Co. in the 1850 census. All we know about John and Rockalena in this era is that they married in Duplin Co. NC in 1782 and showed up in Smith Co. TN around 1798. There is no information on whether they migrated directly from Duplin or possibly went first to Georgia, where Bryant was born, then to Tennessee, but this would explain how their son, Bryant came to be born in Georgia. The presumed fact that Bryant was born in Georgia as the census states lends more support to the possibility that our Bryant and his father, John, were kin to the other Bryant that married Nancy because Georgia is where that Bryant was living at the time (near the banks of the Tugalo river) and this fact might have drawn our John Ward down there. Hi Matt, Do you have the name of the cemetery where she & her husband or any of their children are buried? Since, Jerry Quinn is going to try to set up something in the future with info on "cemeteries & obits" possibly, it helps to give out the names of the cemeteries. I am assuming that the Roxie Laney is how the name got transcribed into Roxialaney. What about the Rochsellaery spelling that I have also seen sometimes coming out of the Duncan line. This group of Kornegay mail-list people have been absolutely great with sharing their info. Think you are going to enjoy this very much. Sue in CA
Roxie Ward Hey is my first cousin once removed (my father's first cousin). Did she mention that she is the namesake of Rockalena? We think the name was corrupted due to misspelling probably by whomever recorded the marriage in Duplin Co. because we have never seen a name like "Rockalena", but on her tombstone here in Middle Tennessee it is spelled Roxie Laney.
Welcome aboard Christopher Beard! I posting a message that was sent yesterday in case you would like to join the chat session which is tonight. Hi all, Wasn't that nice! At least I know that my homepage is active for some people to get info from. <G> Sue Meinhart aka M-S-Meinhart in southern CA Signing off as Sue in CA
I am descended from Jacob Kornegay and his first wife Elizabeth Fontaine through their daughter, Rockalena, who married John Ward. Matt Ward 1019 E. Main St. Murfreesboro, TN 37130
Dear Cousins - I'm so sorry! I had unexpected company as soon as I walked in the door (don't you just hate that?) and I didn't get my changes loaded until after 7:30 EST. The stuff is there now. The "mystery" so to speak is in Luke's will. His brother (who obviously thought that Luke should have left him more than he did) contested the will . . . and lost. Sue Meinhart also sent me a fascinating bio on Ann Civil Kornegay and it's posted too. Sue, I can just close my eyes and imagine Ann havingher slaves row her down the river while she sat back unfer the awning of the boat. I've seen those rivers in Duplin and I can just see it happening. Can I interest y'all in something a little different? I manage another page that has it's own server and I've been working on a little chat program. I didn't write it, but I'm doing some experimenting in PERL programming. I modified it and loaded it on my server computer at work. Anyway, the chat capability is functional, but I haven't "turned it on" yet. Anyone interested in a chat session tomorrow night at say, 8:00 PM EST? I haven't published the link to anyone at the Joint Warfighting Center, but I can use our session as a test. If so, please reply back by the listserv and I'll send out the URL. Jerry -- ******************************************* Jerry Quinn 12 El Paso Court Hampton, VA 23669 USA (757) 851-0027

I found it in the N.C. section of the Houston Genealogical Library. The information was given by John Baxton Flowers III who cites his sources: Unpublished manuscript on Kornegay genealogy, based on primary reserach sources, deeds, wills, estate records and Bible records in the possession of the author. He says, "George and Mary Kornegay had eight children: George Jr., Capt. Jacob Kornegay, who married Mary Ward and lived in Duplin County; John Kornegay, who married a woman named Rachel, and lived in Duplin County; William Kornegay, who married Elizabeth, daughter of Edward and Patience Outlaw, and lived in Duplin County; David Kornegay who married a woman named Lettie, and lived in Jones County; Joseph, who is said to have married Margaret Roberts and lived in Duplin County; Abraham, who died childless in 1809 in Duplin County; and Mary who married Edward Cornwallis DeBruhl and lived in Duplin County. (now Wayne); and Elijah b 1762 and inherited lands on Falling Creek." > >In another paragraph he states: "George Jr., married Mrs Margaret (Downing) Lullum, a widow and by her had six children. She died ca. 1800 and in 1802 he married Mrs. Mourning Wiggins, widow of Willis Wiggins of Wayne County. George and Mourning had no children, though she had an only daughter, Elizabeth Wiggins, who later married George's son Jacbo Kornegay II, thus further complicating the web of a family that has produced what some term "double Kornegays" and "triple Kornegays."
