    1. [KORNEGAY-L] Duplin County families
    2. Gayle Licari
    3. I would like to share with those who are searching their lines of Duplin County, NC. I have been searching for 25+ years. In 1984 my genealogy search took on a different meaning. My 18 year old dau. Dee Dee was diagnosed with a lethal genetic illness FANCONI APLASTIC ANEMIA. She had just graduated from high school when her diagnosis was made by doctors from Duke University, in Durham, NC. The hematologist questioned us thoroughly about our family history. They wanted to know if my husband and I were related. We were not. He was Italian/Irish ancestry from New York and I was English/Irish/German ancestry from Wayne County, NC. The doctors told us then it must be in your background somewhere. I carried the faulty gene and so did my husband therefore causing Dee Dee to be born with both faulty gene.(Enormous odds for this to happen) but it did. In the summer of 1985 another family the Frohmayers of Oregon was faced with the same diagnosis. Their 2 daughters were diagnosed. They mustered research for this horrendous disease that robs children of their health and lives at a young age. >From their efforts and others research around the globe began to find the cause and cures for our children's lives. Dr. Guido |Fanconi, a Swiss pediatrician who this disease is named after was one of the first researchers and treating physician to children born with Fanconi Aplastic Anemia. Since 1985, our family had the opportunity to attend two symposiums for families, doctors, and researchers. We learned that families who intermarry have an increased risk for their offsprings to be born with FAA. They know as many as eight (8) faulty genes play a part to this mystery. So far researchers have identified 2 FAA-A and FAA-C. Research is ongoing in NEW YORK, HOLLAND, GERMANY, ENGLAND, ISRAEL so that better cures will be found and offered to children suffering from this lethal illness. Many of the children do not live past 12. Only 5% live past 21 years of age. Dee Dee lived just past 25. She was fortunate there was a perfect bone marrow match for her, but by the time the procedure had been perfected her health had declined to point she was not a prime candiate for the transplant. But when you are faced with only 0 zero percent chance of life and you are offered a 10 to 15 % chance you will grab at that chance. Dee Dee was a spunky kid filled with lots of moxie and she displayed bravery and courage thorough out her short life. It has been 7 years since Dee Dee's battle for life and good health ended, and everyday I love and miss her. I try not to be bitter at our ancestors because they didn't know and I surely didn't know, but I have a different way of viewing genealogy than I did before my daughter's diagnosis and death. I know you are thinking anemia doesn't kill, but this Fanconi Aplastic Anemia does. It progressively shuts down one's bone marrow from producing red, white cells, and platelets. The children are more prone to leukemia, also. In a few days a friend will hve completed a Memorial Web Page for Dee Dee and I would like to share the site with everyone on the list serv. Gayle W. Licari

    3. Hi Kornegay Friends. Need dates on Margaret Roberts that possibly married Joseph Kornegay. Who did Joseph (- son of William Kornegay that died Jan 31st 1796) Marry? Did Carolina and Clarissa Kornegay die the same date?? Did Lewis William Kornegay (son of Isaac and Hester) die the day he was married? Wish my scanner would work - I would send the copy of the Bible records that I found. the record ended in rly - so I don't think that would be Polly and I don't think it would be Mary. I'm at a lost as to what it might be!! Hope you can help me Ruth

    3. Pat, I do have the information. You must have missed my former input on the cemetery. I live about 1/2 mile from the cemetery - which is up on a hill (nothing like a mountain hill - any elevation is a hill to the eastern NC people) I knew Malcolm. I live about 2 miles from "Waterloo". I have found some of Malcolm's informatiom to be misleading. My husband was a descendent of Harget and Susanna Simmons Kornegay also. I have recently been to the cemetery and got the list of names - but some were hard to read because of moss(?) and age. I have bought some clorox to see if I could clean the Stones - beautiful stones- but haven't been able to get back to try it. We are having some awful hot weather. Being almost 74 (July 5) its not as easy for me as it was when I was 47. But if time permits - I will get back and check it out and put them on the e-mail list. 1. [KORNEGAY-L] [Fwd: FLAMED!!!! over American use of the word Scotch]
    2. Paul & Donna Spears
    3. Dear Kornegay List: The following msgs. are about flaming others. This is not an isolated incident because it has happened on the Kornegay list also. I have been keeping this quiet except for one or two but now I feel I need to say something about it. It is not acceptable on this list, nor should it be on ours. To say anything to someone for their way of speaking, or their presentation of a msg. is unkind and in my opinion and in the opinion of others it seems from these mgs, it is considered flaming. This has not happened to me but to another, by private e-mail. I won't name names but will publicly ask that you stop and consider what you have done! You may think it is funny and you are just kidding, but you are not in the other person's shoes. You may have an unsensitive nature but everyone is not made like you. We are all in this together and none of us have the answers or we wouldn't be on the list. To change another's e-maill message/heading without asking the person for permissin is uncalled for. It is stating that the other one doesn't know much. I myself would take offense to any change from another unless that other askem for my permission to do so. It is flat rude. There are beginners such as myself on the list and if I thought I would be watchdogged over every little thing that I did, I would not post onething. Please be aware of the way you say things and the tone of your message. To use the word "Sweetie" in a condescending way is chauvinistic(sic) and should be done away with. I hope that all on the Kornegay list doesn't take offense to this mgs. because it was not intended that way. I has been a very pleasant experience. In fact, I don't want anyone to take offense, but to stop the unkind words. Please, the ones who are involved do not e-mail me privately about this. You do however owe the other person an apology (at least private if not public),not condescending either, but a true apology. The Bible says that if a brother/sister is offended even if you didn't intend to do so, you should go to that bro/sister and ask forgiveness. Thank you for consideration in matter, Donna
