    2. Hi, So far I have my Walters back to the border of North and South Carolina. I am stuck on Herrin/Herring Walters. That is one of the reasons I am interested in the Herring surname that keeps popping up on this list. I beleive my Herrin/Herring Walters was named for his mothers surname. I have been stuck on this person for about 5 yrs. now. I sure would like to get past this block. Sincerely, Lori

    2. If one little boy named George Kornegay had not been taken captive instead of slain like most of the other settlers including his own family, none of us would be here today.

    3. It is my understanding George KORNEGAY and George KOONCE were the only surviving children of the melee. They were held by the Indians for 3 months and then rescued by the newly formed militiamen. Jacob MILLER, a Swiss Schoolmaster and Justice of the Peace were their guardians til they reached majority. Thank you for sharing this information. If, by chance, anyone has the opportunity to read the 4 volumes of the VIRGINIA COMPANY BOOKS usually copies are in the State Archives Libraries. Much history will be gained from these books. A similiar massacre in Colonial Virginia happened and it listed the names of the people. The wording and spelling was much different in 1609-1624. Interesting reading. Kathy and Eddie thank you for sharing. Gayle W.
