Hi: enjoyed Edward's message. Im very familiar with the A. T. Outlaw papers that he was referring to. A. T was Register of Deeds (I think this is correct) of Duplin County for many years and he wrote down information -about relationships- of the Kornegay family. I'm sure he did it on many families - but I have seen a copy on the Kornegay family. Ruth Duplin County

Thank you very much. That is a very interesting bit of Kornegay history. I've lived in Texas most of my life and never knew that. I have seen the Kornegay name at the Alamo. I have a document titled "KORNEGAY, Preliminary Sketch by A.T. Outlaw a descendant". According to this source, George Kornegay had a son named Elijah, with second wife Susanna Stechey. Your home page has no further link on Elijah. My document says that Elijah had a son, Robert Kornegay, born between 1785 and 1794 in Duplin NC, and died around 1820. His wife was named Lititia. One of the Robert's son was David Smith Kornegay, born 1808. This man has a fascinating history. He participated in the Texas War and in campaigns against Waco, tehuacana and comanche indians. He survived the Dawson Massacre in 1842, and was carried into captivity by Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana. He was taken to the Perote Prission, who is between Mexico City and Veracruz. With 16 other men, escaped from Perote, went to the port of Veracruz, and from then to Nueva Orleans. He died in 1856. He has a memorial. There is a "David Smith Kornegay Biography", by Walter P. Freytag. One of David's brother, John Kornegay, also participated in Texas War. He was executed by mexican forces. David Kornegay had a son, Edward Dawson Kornegay, born in 1845 in La Grange Fayette TX, and died in 1914 in New Mexico. He served in the Confederation Army. My document finishes here. Edward Kornegay had a son, Robert Kornegay, who is my grandfather. My father is Edward Dawson Kornegay, born 1914 in New Mexico, who was a pilot in the Royal Air Force during World War II, being condecorated by King George. He now lives in San Benito, TX. Tell me if you have the document. I can also send you some photos. I am going to prepare a home page with my family, so you can visit it. I have seen yours some minutes ago!. Kathy and other Kornegay Cousins - Yes. After Sheila sent out that URL I checked out the site and found his email address. He answered today and this is what he says: Hola Jerry: Me da mucho gusto saber de ustedes. Saludos Eduardo Kornegay TRANSLATION - Hello Jerry - It gives me great pleasure to hear about you. I am the son of Edward D. Kornegay, who lives in San Benito, Texas. He was born in New Mexico and is the son of Robert Kornegay (Sheila, I'll bet it's your Robert A. Kornegay family!). We descend in a direct line from David Kornegay, who fought in the Texan War and who migrated from North Carolina to join with Sam Houston's forces. I know the story to which you make reference. My father Edward Kornegay passed the facts on to me. He fought in World War II with the British Air Force (I wonder if he means as an American advisor to the Brits? - Jerry) and was decorated. He was born in 1914. He spoke Spanish very well and his family had ties to Mexico. His family moved from New Mexico to Arizona. I do have some information and some pictures of his family that might be of interest for the (picture) album in case you don't have them. I was born in San Luis, Sonora on the border at Yuma, Arizona. I now live in Tijuana, Baja California. I'm 42 years old, a university professor, and I'm really into computers. I'm married and have two children, Jorge (Spanish spelling for George!! - Jerry) (4 years old) and Cecilia (18 months old). I'm going to visit the URL you gave me. I'm pleased to be in contact with you all and I hope we continue exchanging information. Eduardo Kornegay Kathy J Chruscielski wrote: > > Jerry, > Have you been in contact with Kornegays in Mexico? Hello, I am fairly new to the list and this is my first posting. I recently saw a couple of post for George Fisher Kornegay and several Gradys. I have not done much of the research past Nancy Kornegay myself. Some of my info comes from "John Graddy of Duplin County." It has been a long time since I looked at this book in a library and it seems it was published about 1912. I do remember many Kornegays, Outlaws and Graddys married. My line is: George Kornegay and Mary Fisher William Kornegay and Elizabeth Outlaw Nancy Kornegay, born abt 1774, and Frederick Graddy (They moved to Hopkins Co. Ky.) Major Lewis Grady and H.V. Stewart (He moved to Independence County, Ar.) Wilda from Indiana
Ruth, I read your message about where you are from and couldn't resist a little conversation. I am originally from Warsaw, N. C. My great grandmother was Delia Kornegay who married Marion Simmons. Their son, Daniel Simmons was my grandfather. He married Berda Belle Grady. Both now deceased. I am the off spring of their daughter Grace Simmons Smith. I know a little about the area you are speaking about and just wanted to say "Hello" and small world isn't it! Jerry ******************************************* Jerry Quinn 12 El Paso Court Hampton, VA 23669 USA (757) 851-0027
