My grandmother was Josephine (went by Rose.) Her sister Caroline (Carrie) had two children; Marie and Frank Lechner who are now ages 91 and 84. To my knowledge, they are the only surviving children of the Kohnke siblings. I see them often. They have given me many family pictures, although we have not been able to find any of Augusta. She was born Oct 14,1849 and died of cancer Nov.10,1887 in Watertown,MN. John and Frank Kohnke settled in Ill. and I do not have a lot of information on their families yet.
I am happy to announce a new list at Rootsweb. The ORPHAN-TRAINS Discussion List is for the discussion of the ORPHAN TRAINS that carried thousands of children to new homes in any and all states and anything pertaining to them covering the time periods of 1850's to 1930. Discussions pertaining to anything related to these children, circumstances, finding their families, history of these trains, etc. are encouraged. To join ORPHAN-TRAINS-L, send mail to: ORPHAN-TRAINS-Lfirstname.lastname@example.org with the single word subscribe in the message subject and body. To join ORPHAN-TRAINS-D, do the same thing with ORPHAN-TRAINS-Demail@example.com It is not necessary to subscribe in both modes. There is an ORPHAN-TRAINS List home page where you can review the list rules and guidelines and find links to related sites. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/orphan-trains-l.htm

His second wife was Augusta Kohnke who had seven children. She was the widow of Frederick Kohnke. Frederick died about 1899 (maybe earlier) in St. Paul Mn. In 1900 her youngest child was just under one year. Her children were Denny, Fred, John, Minnie, Annie, Mary and Carl. Augusta Kohnke Beirmayer died in 1924. I have an obit for her. Her second marriage was to Anton Biermayer.
> I wasn't getting list mail for a while so I went to the archives Dear listers, Our list server was out of commission for several days last week before last and over the weekend. It was a hard disk failing to load after the new server was installed and brought online. Tim, our trusty techie, got it taken care of and now it's working fine. However, much mail is still in the queue from while it was down. List mail may come out of order and this is why. ALSO: Currently, the archives are having the hiccups. It may appear that the messages are *not* arriving at the list archives, but rest assured they are there, but just invisible. Or so Tim tells us! It is a known problem and it is being worked on. For further updates, please check the *yellow box* at the help desk. http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ Sharon, List Admin

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Hkn.2ACIB/5.7.1 Message Board Post: My Grandmother was a Kohnke. I was always told she was born in Maple Plain MN. However no Kohnke's are listed in the census there. I was surprised to see you mention the name Daisy. My Grandmothers name was Laura Daisy Kohnke born 1886. I am wondering if there could be a connection? Watertown and Maple Plain Mn are fairly close. Her parents were from Germany. They were Marks Kohnke and Christina Schleuter Kohnke. They ended up in Hecla SD. Does any of this make sense to you?
