J.M Runk & Co Publishers, Chambersburg, PA. 1897 Vol II p.943 John A KOHLER, farmer, stock-raiser and fruit grower, Turbett twp, Juniata co, PA, was born May 22, 1851 in this township. He is son of William and Susan (MOTZ) KOHLER. His grandfather, Andrew KOHLER, a native of Adams county, PA, removed to Thompsontown, where for years he had charge of the Evans Mill. He then settled in Richfield, Snyder co, where he owned the Kohler mill, and managed it prosperously for a number of years. From this point he removed to New Berlin, Union co, where, after leading a retired life for several years, he died. Andrew KOHLER married Anna Maria BRENISHOLS, a native of Adasms co, on November 6, 1817. Their children were Jacob,; John; Andrew; William; Frederick; Catharine; Simon; Charles G.; Thomas; and Mary Ann. Andrew KOHLER was a Democrat. He was prominent in church business, and held the office of elder. His wife also died in Union co. William KOHLER, one of his sons was born in Juniata co and farmed in Snyder co until 1851, when he bought a farm in Turbett township, which he cultivated , besides raising stock. William married a lady of Snyder, Susan, daughter of John MOTZ, a farmer and distiller of German descent, born in Centre co, and a resident of Snyder co. Their children; Annie B. (Mrs J.P. SHINDLE), of Lancaster city; Sarah E. (Mrs J.F. Jacobs) of Portsmouth, VA; John A of Turbett township; Mary L (Mrs M.L. MOUL of Peoria co, Ill.; and Emelia who died when a young woman. William KOHLER was a Democrat, and was elected on that ticket in 1861, one of the commissioners of Juniata co, which position he filled for the best interest of the taxpayers.He also filled the office of school directot and several other important offices. He was a member of the Lutheran church. He died September 16, 1893. His wife, Susan (MOTZ) KOHLER, died February 5, 1894. John A KOHLER married in 1876, in Turbett township, Anna M JACOBS, a native of this township, daughter of Benjamin JACOBS, a farmer, of Scotch- Irish descent. Their children: William A; Charles B; Warren M; and John L. He is a member of the Lutheran church.
