I'm looking for more information on a gggrandfather,Heinrich Ernst Friederick KAEHLER, changed to Henry KAHLER. We have a paper in old German saying he was born November 1, 1851 in Neugarten (we always thought Austria, which is now Czechoslovakia, but now i think it may have been Germany) and that he was given permission by his father to come to America as a bricklayer's apprentice. I've found a Heinrich KAEHLER who sailed from Hamburg Germany when he was 18 on the ship Cymbria and arrived in new york 6/30/1868. This may or may not be him - but it's the closest i've found. He changed his name to Henry Kahler and the first census i've found is the 1870 Baltimore County, Maryland census. He married Louise Fula and lived in Balitmore. They had 6 children: Frederick, Charles, Harry, John, Rickey (female), and another daughter. He died in 1900. Does Heinrich/Henry Kaehler/Kahler have any siblings over here? I can't seem to find any information about his family - parents, siblings, etc. that may or may not have come over. Thanks! Elaine Kahler ekahler@hopi.dtcc.edu
