    1. MIDWIFE KOELER OF SPORNITZ
    2. N & D Bergman
    3. This is the first time I have made a posting to this group and it would be great to hear from someone with a connection. My GGGG Grandmother was FRIEDERICA KOELERN born 18th April 1763 in Drenkow Mecklenburg. Her father was JOHANN KOELER, possibly a tailor from Drenkow. FRIEDERICA KOELERN married my GGGG Grandfather JOCHIM HINRICH BERGMANN, the Master Smith in Spornitz Mecklenburg on the 23rd November 1791. This was Jochims second marriage. FRIEDERICA BERGMANN nee KOELER is recorded as dying of TB or a related complaint on the 13th January 1828. By that time she was recorded as the SMITHS WIDOW 64 3/4 years of age born in Drhnkow/Suckow. Friederica Bergmann nee Koeler was the Midwife of Spronitz for many years. If I have confused anyone with spelling Koeler two ways, we have found that the old church records in this area of Mecklenburg added a "n" to the female version of surnames. We found this a common practice in this area for quite a long period of time. Has anyone else found this in other areas of Germany? I would be very interested to hear if anyone is also researching any of these people and anything at all about Drenkow and Spornitz. My email address is: nbergman@gil.com.au Thanks in advance. 3. Hmmm... I wonder if everyone named their kids the same back then... My gggrandparents on my fathers side, whose names I don't know, also had five children whom they named August, Christine, Barbara, Fred, and Christian William KOEHLER. They lived and were born in Germany somewhere. Christian, my ggrandfather, was born 15 Aug 1872. His parents brought him and His siblings to the USA around 1876/77. He eventually settled down in the Grand Rapids, MI area and also changed His name spelling to KAHLER. >>> "Lewis H. Married Came with Anna from Germany and married in Haldimand County Canada. Anna brought her five children by Martin Nopper. Kohlerville was named after him. 3. I'm looking for more information on a gggrandfather,Heinrich Ernst Friederick KAEHLER, changed to Henry KAHLER. We have a paper in old German saying he was born November 1, 1851 in Neugarten (we always thought Austria, which is now Czechoslovakia, but now i think it may have been Germany) and that he was given permission by his father to come to America as a bricklayer's apprentice. I've found a Heinrich KAEHLER who sailed from Hamburg Germany when he was 18 on the ship Cymbria and arrived in new york 6/30/1868. This may or may not be him - but it's the closest i've found. He changed his name to Henry Kahler and the first census i've found is the 1870 Baltimore County, Maryland census. He married Louise Fula and lived in Balitmore. They had 6 children: Frederick, Charles, Harry, John, Rickey (female), and another daughter. He died in 1900. Does Heinrich/Henry Kaehler/Kahler have any siblings over here? I can't seem to find any information about his family - parents, siblings, etc. that may or may not have come over. Thanks! Elaine Kahler ekahler@hopi.dtcc.edu

    3. Historic Record of the Town of Meriden, Connecticut, 1906, Vol 2  Several well known Swedish divines of the Baptist faith have presided over the church from time to time. The first regular pastor was Rev. A. P. Sword, who served in 1888-89 and was followed by Rev. A. Rohnstrom, under whose pastorate the church was built, and he remained until 1893 when Rev. T. Clafford became the pastor, serving five years. Rev. W. KOHLER was installed and held the pastorate until 1904, when Rev. Robert Larson was called to the church from Minnesota, and he has since guided the spiritual lives of its members. The deacons of the church at the present writing are Hans Hanson, John E. Swenson, David Dahl and Olof Falk. LESLIE BRIDGES KOHLER

    3. My other unknown KOHLER is Anthony KOHLER b c 1770-1865. He had a child out of wedlock with a Barbara CUMMINS. Their daughter Rosa Marie Cummins was born 3 Aug 1879 in Morgan Co, IN. This daughter married John Peter May, son of Matilda KOHLER AND George MAY in 1894 in Sigel, Shelby, IL. I have no more information on either Anthony KOHLER and Barbara CUMMINS. This Anthony KOHLER could be related to Matilda KOHLER, or he could not. Can anyone help me unravel this mystery? 3. One of my Kohler mysteries is: Matilda KOHLER, b 4 Oct 1839 in Randolph, Portage Co, OH. She died 28 Dec 1911 in Trowbridge, IL. She was the 2nd wife of George May 10 Nov 1863. They had 6 children: John Peter, Charles Peter, Louisa, Albert J., Mary Ellen, and Willie. It is said her parents were originally from Wurttenberg area of Germany, but she was obviously born in Ohio. 1. Introductions...
    2. Gary Kahler
    3. Hello fellow rooters... Let me introduce myself.... My name is Gary KAHLER, and I've been searching for my family information for only 6 years now... I am in the US Navy and currently live in San Diego, California. So far, my brick wall is my g grandfather. Christian William KOEHLER was born somewhere :-) in Germany 15 Aug 1872. His father and stepmother (his father's second wife, both whose names are unknown to me) took their children to America in 1876/77 (the entrance port is also unknown at this time). His surname when he was born was KOEHLER with an umlaut over the "o". Sometime after he grew up, he changed the spelling of his name to KAHLER. He settled down in the area of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He married Agnes Hope STALKER on 4 Nov 1903 (Marriage Index Book 13 Page 297, Kent County Building, Grand Rapids, MI). They had 7 kids with only two surviving past infancy. Mary Elizabeth KAHLER born 6 Jun 1914, died a spinster in Dade City, Florida, 25 Sep 1991. Paul Christian KAHLER born 15 Oct 1907, was my grandfather, died 30 May 1962, South Haven, MI. I would greatly appreciate any info anyone can provide me on my g grandfather Christian William KOEHLER/KAHLER. Thank you. Gary William KAHLER mailto:kahlergw@dsu.nasni.navy.mil

    2. Leslie (Bridges) Kohler
    3. Hi, How wonderful to see a number of people already subscribed on this first day of OUR list (16 June 1998). Please feel free to share any any all data concerning the name KOEHLER / KOHLER / KAHLER and any other spellings of which I have not thought at this time. The more people who work together, the more all researchers will benefit. So, I will send out any data that I find on any of these name variations. Also, please feel free to send anything that is about genealogy. And, the more queries we receive, the more chances we will have to fit the pieces of our puzzle together. This will NOT be a list with a lot of stuffy rules. All that I really ask is that we respect each others views and be tactful and tasteful. With that said, we can all learn together.
