    3. Hello, I just joined your group today. I am hoping that some one can help me out. This information I copied from the Greensburg Library in Greensburg , Westmoreland Co. Pa. From old German church Records. I have a Peter Koehler and wife Catherina. They were baptizing their daughter. Susannna born Aug. 29, 1806 Peter and Catherina baptizing a son Daniel born Jan.21 1809 then I have Peter and wife SUSANNA Koehler baptizing a son Jacob Born Sept. 24, 1817 (my husband'sgreat, great, grandfather) Peter and wife Susanna baptizing another son Peter born Jan. 20. 1819 My questions are 1. Is this Peter with 2 different wives or is Catherina and Susanna the one and the same? 2. who is John Peter- 1794 ? could he be the same Peter mentioned before? Thanks any information would help. 1. [KOEHLER-L] RE: KOEHLER OF LONDON
    2. kayler
    3. My GGG Grandfather was George Koehler, I do not know where he was born, but he married Mary Rogers in London in 1804 aged 24. His first 2 children were baptised with the name of Koehler, but from the 3rd child he changed his name to Kayler. He was a Master Baker and lived at Holborn and Upper Holloway,London, his Will showed him to be quite a wealthy man, with the amount of property and houses he left to his children. Does anybody have any connection to my George Koehler/Kayler. Heather Prins...Brisbane,Australia

    1. [KOEHLER-L] Genealogy Poem
    2. It was the first day of census, and all through the land each pollster was ready ... a black book in hand. He mounted his horse for a long dusty ride, his book and some quills were tucked close by his side. A long winding ride down a road barely there, toward the smell of fresh bread wafting, up through the air. >> The woman was tired, with lines on her face and wisps of brown hair she tucked back into place. She gave him some water ... as they sat at the table and she answered his questions ... the best she was able. He asked her of children. Yes, she had quite a few -- the oldest was twenty, the youngest not two. >> She held up a toddler with cheeks round and red; his sister, she whispered, was napping in bed. She noted each person who lived there with pride, and she felt the faint stirrings of the wee one inside. He noted the sex, the color, the age... the marks from the quill soon filled up the page. >> At the number of children, she nodded her head and saw her lips quiver for the three that were dead. The places of birth she "never forgot" was it Kansas? or Utah? or Oregon ... or not? They came from Scotland, of that she was clear, but she wasn't quite sure just how long they'd been here. >> They spoke of employment, of schooling and such, they could read some ... and write some ... though really not much. When the questions were answered, his job there was done so he mounted his horse and he rode toward the sun. We can almost imagine his voice loud and clear, "May God bless you all for another ten years." >> Now picture a time warp ... its' now you and me as we search for the people on our family tree. We squint at the census and scroll down so slow as we search for that entry from long, long ago. Could they only imagine on that long ago day that the entries they made would effect us this way? >> If they knew would they wonder at the yearning we feel and the searching that makes them so increasingly real. We can hear if we listen the words they impart through their blood in our veins and their voice in our heart.

    3. Found on the Ancestry site-- (also see below the description)-- Description: This database contains sources where the researcher can find the gravestone inscriptions for the entire state of Missouri. Organized by county and cemetery name, it provides the researcher an invaluable tool in finding headstone inscriptions for relatives who rest in Missouri when travel to the cemetery is not available. With each cemetery is the compiler of the source material and the work in which can be found the headstone inscription. In some cases there is more than one source. Often this includes the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. The number following this type of entry (FHL) is the microfilm number and copies of the microfilm reel can be obtained at nearly sixteen hundred branch libraries of the Family History Library. In a few cases there are other respositories listed where the inscription source can be found. 3. In response to Leslie saying that a clean funny is welcome.... here's one that I thought fits in nicely with us "Genealogists".... Are you feeling old? If not, consider this: 1. The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1980. 2. They have no meaningful recollection of the Reagan era, and did not know he had ever been shot. 3. They were prepubescent when the Persian Gulf War was waged. 4. Black Monday 1987 is as significant to them as the Great Depression. 5. There has only been one Pope. They can only really remember one president. 6. They were 11 when the Soviet Union broke apart, and do not remember the Cold War. 7. They have never feared a nuclear war. "The Day After" is a pill to them, not a movie. 8. They are too young to remember the Space shuttle blowing up, and Tienamin Square means nothing to them. 9. Their lifetime has always included AIDS. 10. They never had a Polio shot, and likely, do not know what it is. 11. Bottle caps have not only always been screw off, but have always been plastic. They have no idea what a pull top can looks like. 12. Atari pre-dates them, as do vinyl albums. 13. The expression "you sound like a broken record" means nothing to them. 14. They have never owned a record player. 15. They have likely never played Pac Man, and have never heard of Pong. 16. Star Wars looks very fake to them, and the special effects are pathetic. 17. There have always been Red M&M's, and Blue ones are not new. What do you mean there used to be beige ones? 18. They may have heard of an 8-track, but chances are they probably have never actually seen or heard one. 19. The Compact Disc was introduced when they were 1 year old. 20. As far as they know, stamps have always cost about 32 cents. 21. They have always had an answering machine. 22. Most have never seen a TV set with only 13 channels, nor have they seen a black and white TV. 23. They have always had cable. 24. There have always been VCR's, but they have no idea what Beta is. 25. They cannot fathom not having a remote control. 26. They were born the year that the Walkman was introduced by Sony. 27. Roller-skating has always meant inline for them. 28. The Tonight Show has always been with Jay Leno. 29. They have no idea when or why Jordache jeans were cool. 30. Popcorn has always been cooked in a microwave. 31. They have never seen Larry Bird play, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a Football player. 32. They never took a swim and thought about Jaws. 33. The Vietnam War is as ancient history to them as W.W.I, W.W.II or even the Civil War. 34. They have no idea that Americans were ever held hostage in Iran. 35. They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are. 36. They don't know who Mork was or where he was from. 37. They never heard the terms "Where's the beef?", "I'd Walk a mile for a Camel", or "de plane, de plane!". 38. They do not care who shot J.R. and have no idea who J.R. is. 39. The Titanic was found? I thought we always knew where it was. 40. Michael Jackson has always been white. 41. Kansas, Chicago, Boston, America, and Alabama are places, not groups. 42. McDonalds never came in Styrofoam containers. >>> "Leslie (Bridges) Kohler" <shandybeast@starlink.com> 09/10/98 09:37am >>> Guten Tag, Having received several, wonderful questions about what is allowed on this list, I decided that it is probably time for me to give all of you some further information. This list, like all other surname lists, will be the most productive if we freely share data and questions. Even an occasional (clean) funny is nice. Lets work to get comfortable with one another.

There he met and married the daughter of the owner of a small foundry and machine shop. He even- tually bought his father-in-law's business, and that business grew to the Kohler Co. we know today. The current president, Herbert Kohler, is a grandson of John Michael Kohler. We can send you additional information about the Kohlers if you'll let us know you postal mailing address. =======================================================

    1. [KOEHLER-L] Andrew KOHLER 1795-1869 & Kohler Company
    2. Hi Steve, Well that manuscript provided two important things and I'm only on page 3. It proves Andrew KOHLER of Juniata Co, PA and Andrew KOHLER III born in Adams Co, PA [grandson of Andrew Kohler the immigrant] are the same person. It said that Andrew died on 3 Jul 1869 at the age of 73 years 7 months 7days. Well that computes to 26 Nov 1794 and we have the church record of Andrew III's birth of 25 Nov 1795. I'll bet that is a math error of one day or error in recording or memory of the birthday. The second thing was I've been trying to figure our who the Kohlers of the Kohler company were. I can't lay my hands on it now but I've got a copy of mail from the Kohler company and all they knew was he came from PA. What a surprise to learn that Andrew 3rd's son Charles is that founder. Such excitement to establish these links after working the Kohler line for 18 years. Regards, Gene Smith [gsmithsan@aol.com] Pasadena, CA
