The Luxembourg Gazette was a newspaper publication from the late 1800s to about 1918. Its purpose was to inform people in the old country of happening involving Luxembourgers who immigrated to the States. All the people named in its articles have been listed alpha- betically, and there are listings organized by U. S. locality involved in the articles. These listings are provided in a two-volume set which can usually be obtained through interlibrary loan (depending on your local library's area network). Obtaining photocopies of the actual articles and reading the Old German script is trickier but can be done. In any case, I have a photocopy of the list of all the KOEHL, KOEHLER, and KOEL listings (as well as KOENIG, KOEDINGER, and KOETZ), in which I can do lookups, which will provide the newspaper issue and page number of the involved article. I was interested to read the note concerning the Luxembourg Gazette. I am trying to track a 4 great-grandfather who supposedly came to America in 1755 from Luxembourg. I have had no luck. This newspaper would not be the right time period for my ancestor. Thanks Margretta Clark Aviles
This came as part of the KY BIOS posting for today and might be of use to some of us. ~Leslie ----- Great news. The surname index for the msg board where I store all past bios is now working! The URL is: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/Bios When you load this site, you will see a heading called Surname List. Click on this and then pick the letter of the alphabet matching the surname. Some are subdivided. It will take you to a list of bios there for that surname and click on the ones you are looking for. There are a LOT of names there, it might be a little slow. > From: Sandi Gorin <sgorin@glasgow-ky.com>

Just wanted the Kohler researchers to know that the LDS library has a filming of the Pedigree Chart of the Kohler Family From Hessen, 1585-1906, Europe film No. 1045480, item 14. There is also supposed to be a book on the shelf in SLC, under call number 929.243, K 824r, but it was missing when I was there some four years ago. I do have some very poor photocopies of the film, five pages in all, which I can try to read. It starts with Johannes Kohler, b. 1585 in an illegible location, with the next entry being fuller: Johannes Peter Kohler, b. 1610 in the same unreadable place, but who married Anna Maria Dippel and who died 1673 in Stockhausen. The chart appears to end in the 1880s, in Kassel. Sharon Carberry
Sharon - Our ancestor Wilhelm Koehler was born 1706 in Germany, went to Russia in 1766 or 67. We have chart from Russia. Would he by chance be listed on your in copy of Pedigree chart from Hessen 1585-1906? Thanks for any help you can provide. RKLER@aol.com
I have on interlibrary loan until Oct. 20th a book by Arvid Kohler and Kitty Cosentine, entitled The House of Von Kohler, a Family History 1300-1989. Kohler has an umlaut over the "o" but the book also states that the name was spelled Koler in the 1500s. This is a very complete history of a particular family from a land called Godset Smerle in the Sunzel parish of Livlund, Sweden. The authors' grandfather Hjalmer Fromholt Von Kohler, b. 1843, immigrated from Bohuslan, Sweden, and died 1928 in Moline, Illinois. The book has numerous pages and several photographs of Swedish and American family members in the 1800s and 1900s. I can do lookups. Sharon Carberry
Our Kellars/Kellers came from VA. Michael Kellar (born 1760 supposedly in Augusta Co., VA and died in Alexandria in 1816) and wife, Catherine Monroe (died in 1825, the dau. of Thomas Monroe and Catherine Hore of Westmoreland Co., VA) were married in Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., VA. They had 9 children---1) George, 2) Henry, 3) Margaret (m. Boling Hatton), 4) Catherine (m. Benjamin Hatton), 5) Michael (my gggrandfather, m. Nancy Dyer, dau. of Hebron), 6) Susan (single), 7) Elizabeth (m. Jacob Miller---they lived and died in Strasburg), 8) Sarah (m. Unknown Meyers), and 9) Catherine Scotia, aka-Scotty, (m. Isaac Borum---moved to Missouri). Some of these moved back and forth from Alexandria to Strasburg, VA leaving for OH about 1820 or so. I'm also chasing down the descendants of Martin Keller and wife, Margaret Rich Keller who also ended up in Noble Co. about the same time. They may be related to my Kellars back in VA or PA. Some were in the Wheeling Creek area of WV in the late 1700's---Martin Keller and wife, Margaret Rich. Do you know them? Susan Kellar Ratcliffe Delaware, Ohio skrat@midohio.net
