    1. Re: [KNOWLTON] Indiana KNOWLTON,s 1800
    2. I thought I would perhaps give ya'll what little I know about my Knowlton forebears. It's not much! My great-grandmother was Susan T. Knowlton born in Terre Haute, IN about 1863. She married Louis Korn in Marshall, Clark Co. IN in April of 1883. Her parents were Benjamin Knowlton and Barbara Smith. They were married in Sept. 1858 in Clark Co. IL. I have their marriage certificate. They had four daughters: Hattie, Susan, Florence, and Jessie. I found the family in the 1860 census living in Marshall, IL. It says that Benjamin was born in Massachussetts as does a blurb on his daughter, Hattie (who married Ivan Barlow) in a book on the history of Clark County. The 1860 census, the marriage certificate and the book are the only places I have been able to definitely identify my Benjamin Knowlton. He was no longer living with the family by 1880 and Barbara is listed as divorced ( I haven't located Barbara in the 1870 census). I visited the Clark Co. historical society in Marshall, IL but learned none of the divorce documents were available. In a later census, Barbara is listed as widowed. I did find a Benjamin Knowlton living in Lake County in the 1870 census, but I don't know if he's mine or not. I have also found land records with Benjamin Knowlton's name, but again, I don't know if this is my ancestor. I can't seem to find where he came from or where he went! If any of this rings a bell or if you have any suggestions on how to proceed, I would be grateful! Ellen
