Sometime following the Civil War James and Mary, their children Alanson Lacy KNOWLTON, Lucena (or possibly Lucinda) KNOWLTON, and Melvin KNOWLTON, along with James' brother John KNOWLTON and John's wife Ursula (STEARNS) KNOWLTON relocated to Plainwell, Allegan County, Michigan. After my gg-grandfather's death in 1891, James and Mary and family moved to Cheboygan County, Michigan. John and his second wife Anna DIDHON (from DiBean marriage database) or DISHONG (from Census records) remained in Allegan County. James, Mary, John, and Ursula are all buried in Hillside Cemetery in Gun Plains Township. Melvin KNOWLTON and his wife Celina "Lina" REESE had no children. Lucena, who may have married a man with the surname REESE, appears to have no children. Alanson Lacy KNOWLTON and his first wife Carrie FAUNCE had one child, who died in infancy. He and his second wife Emily "Emma" Catherine RUMBLE had three children, James Alanson KNOWLTON, Robert Melvin KNOWLTON, and Mabel Frances KNOWLTON. John and Ursula KNOWLTON appear to have two children Lewis E. KNOWLTON and Altha May KNOWLTON. Census records indicate Anna (DISHONG) KNOWLTON had 1 child (who was living in 1900), but I have not been able to determine anything else. Both Lewis and Altha were born before Ursula died according to the 1880 Census and then there's that gap until 1900. Bill Hart
