Unfortunately, some of the provincial governments in Canada have decided that one way to reduce costs at the municipal level is to roll together a group of smaller communities into one larger one. This has happened both with the largest cities (e.g. Toronto and Montreal) as well as with many smaller centres. So Knowlton, Que. has disappeared - as have Bondville, East Hill, Foster, Fulford, Iron Hill, and West Brome - into the aggregation now referred to as Ville de Lac Brome. This foolishness has not been restricted to Quebec - Ontario has made even more of a mess of it.
