I found the following entry in Beers History of Wyoming County, NY. page 250 Alanson LACY, son of Elnathan and Nancy LACY, was born in Manlius, Onondaga county, September 1st, 1810 and has been a resident of Perry since 1817, and a lefelong farmer. He was married May 29, 1839 to Sarah Ann KNOWLTON, daughter of John and Esther KNOWLTON, of Portage. They have had two children, one of whom is living. James M. LACY, their oldest son, enlisted in Company K. 1st N.Y. mounted rifles, and died in the hospital at Williamsburg, VA February 19th, 1863, at the age of twenty-four. ---- Sarah Ann KNOWLTON was an older sister of James Palmer KNOWLTON, who was married to Mary Frances HART. my great-grandaunt. James and Mary were married in Belvidere, Allegany County, NY. This explains why James and Mary's older son was named Alanson Lacy KNOWLTON. According to the information I've received from my cousin (one of James and Mary's ggg-granddaughters) Esther's maiden name was HICKS and she was born in New York City; however, the 1850 Census in Belfast, Allegany Co., NY lists her as born in Vermont ---- Bill Hart
