I have found people who move west from NY to be very difficult to trace. Have checked the Stocking History of Knowltons for you but did not find your Jesse. Have checked your census work: 1900, 1880, 1870, and 1860. Did you notice Jesse's wife was from Virginia? I would guess that they met in the Ohio River valley, the only place where those b in NE and SE usually met. Did you search census for 1850, 1840, and 1830? I do not have access to these. Neighbors in the oldest ones will probably give clues to place of origin. Where in Indiana did they live? elizabeth
