Andrea, I found this in the 1850 Census: New London Township, Huron County, Ohio enumerated 16 July 1850 on page following the one stamped 338 Russel KNOWLTON 37 m New York farmer Lorana KNOWLTON 38 f New York Sherman KNOWLTON 15 m New York Henry A. KNOWLTON 12 m Ohio Asael KNOWLTON 9 m New York Tasey L. KNOWLTON 2 f Ohio Lorana might be Lovana, but there's no way I can get Lavina out of it. It's too clearly written. I also found one Russel KNOWLTON in the 1840 Census. He is in Poultney, Steuben Co., NY. 1 male < 5 1 male 5 < 10 1 male and 1 female 20 < 30 ---- Bill Message text written by INTERNET:KNOWLTON-L@rootsweb.com >I'm interested in Knowltons that imigrated from NY to Ohio. My line Sherman Knowlton born in NY abt.1835 May Lavina Knowlton born in Ohio abt. 1869 Janice Charlotte Simmons born in Ohio in 1901 Clarence Zieske born in Ohio in 1921 Thanks, Andrea< This is a hard one, Andrea. I found him on the 1880 and 1870 censuses in Ohio and in Kansas. But he should show up in Ohio in 1860 with wife Susan and little Spencer aged 1. Nowhere to be seen. I even did searches on all the Shermans and all the Knowltons from NY and all sorts of other things. Since they were in Huron Co in 1880, I did even wilder searches in that county in 1860, but no go. This is not the Sherman b 1848 who appears in Stocking. I do not have access to the 1850 census, but perhaps somone could check Ohio for Knowltons b NY in that year--although there is no guarantee he had left NY yet. I would begin collecting all the records available in Crawford Co, KS, ca 1870, and those in Huron Co., OH, later. Purdy is an old NY name, so there may be Purdys back in the family--I refer to son Purdy age 13 in 1880. I did find Sherman's wife in 1900 DIVORCED and working as a servant in Huron Co. There are some records you could get. Elizabeth W. Knowlton
