Hi there Knowlton's, I have been receiving the Knowlton newsletter for sometime and I thought I would write in to see if anyone can help me. My mother was a Knowlton. Her grandfather came to Canada in 1886 as a home child although he was about 20 years old. Barnardo's arranged his passage and he had to repay the organisation. His name was Alfred Walter Knowlton. He settled in the Shelburne Ontario area and was a very well respected member of the community from all accounts. Anyway his family was from England, St Pancras, Middlesex. His father was James(b. 1840 approx.) and he drowned in Bath in 1870. James married Letitia Stringer in 1858, in St Thomas, Stepney, England. I have found five children, including Alfred. I have traced this family to Joseph and Hannah Knowlton, who as far as I can tell had their first child in 1805 in Essex? or York(shire)?. Any help anyone can offer would be very, very much appreciated. I look forward to hearing something from anyone with thanks,-Juanita >From: KNOWLTON-D-request@rootsweb.com >Reply-To: KNOWLTON-L@rootsweb.com >To: KNOWLTON-D@rootsweb.com >Subject: KNOWLTON-D Digest V05 #21 >Date: Sun, 20 Mar 2005 19:00:02 -0700 > >Content-Type: text/plain > >KNOWLTON-D Digest Volume 05 : Issue 21 > >Today's Topics: > #1 Lydia Knowlton, married to Samuel P ["Elizabeth W.
