Ryle Gilbert Knowlton OXFORD — Ryle Gilbert Knowlton, 63, of Kilroy Road, Oxford died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at York Hospital, York, Pa. He was born May 29, 1935 in Windsor, the son of Raymond and Dora (Cleveland) Knowlton. He was married to Lila L. Ward, June 4, 1955, in Ouaquaga. Mr. Knowlton had been a 29-year resident of Unadilla, until moving to Oxford a year ago. He was a retired employee of Great American Food Stores of Norwich, following 41 years of service, and also was employed for three years at the Oasis Motor Lodge in Oneonta. He also performed volunteer services for the Chenango County Office of the Aging. He was an active member and presently a deacon of the Unadilla Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lila L. Knowlton of Oxford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Debra Knowlton of Otego and Mark and Deborah Knowlton of Dover, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Thomas Burke of Berkshire; two sisters, Flora Scott and Ida Burdick of Sidney; also 13 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Knowlton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at the Unadilla Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul D. Furniss, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla. Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home, 112 Main St., Unadilla, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at their convenience. The family will be in attendance Tuesday evening from 7 to 9. Memorial contributions may be made to the Unadilla Batptist Church.
