As to your specific question: Other than the 6-8 subjects tested for the DNA Surname site, we are currently working with a couple of additional possibilities, both closely allied with the line but with family rather than primary surname relationship. You touch a chord with this suggestion, because so far my own experience has been that nothing works so well as direct contact; individually oriented; more so rather than less.
