    3. Hi, Paul: "Consort" is a term that was often used interchangably with "spouse" in earlier years. I find this especially true in epitaphs. I wouldn't base any conclusion whatever on the use of the term "consort" instead of "wife", as to the writer it was (in every case I have seen) just a traditional way of saying exactly the same thing. Darrell -----Original Message----- From: PaulR10383@aol.com Sent: Jan 8, 2004 7:50 AM Hi Nancy, Benjamin Knowlton was my 6GRGrandfather. Interesting that you mention Phoebe as his "consort" - not wife. I would be interested in any info you have on him (or her)- including picture of cemetery site. I have a copy of a DAR application that lists him as Patriot ( lists he and Phoebe being married in 1850) Many thanks in advance. Best regards, Paul Ryan Darrell A. Knowlton, of St. Cloud, Minn., page 391, listing children, one of which is Maud. - "History of the Upper Mississippi Valley" published 1881 by Minn. Hist. Co. as listed on USGENWEB Contributed by Phil Holm, <pholm@rconnect.com>, Sept. 13, 1999. He lists index only. Could this be your Maude M, dau. of Will and Mary? You might want to chase this book down with the Minn. His. Society which may or may not be the publishing source. I have this William F. Knowlton as son of Francis Knowlton and Lovie Butler. His wife is listed not as Mary but Jane L. and or Irene L. Carrick by Stocking (pg. 261 and pg. 133, and pg. 88 errata). Six children are listed by Stocking and he notes that "they removed to St. Cloud, Minnesota." Possibly William F. was married twice or Stocking got her name wrong. Hope this helps you in the correct direction. Keep us posted of your progress. Marcia

    2. Elizabeth W. Knowlton
    3. Hey, all you descendants of Robert Knowlton and (probably) Rachel Perry who came from New England through NY to the Ohio river valley and then zoomed out across the USA with (I think) thousands of descendants, almost ALL undocumented by Stocking: You have a treat. Below is Patrick Hays web site with not only all these people (down to about 1880-- surely you can take it from there) but also all his HARD RESEARCH and fabulous notes as to why he thinks what he does. I am not even descended from these people and still take delight in reading what Patrick has done. It is ironic that some of the best work done for us, including the Knowlton web site and the original list, have been done by non-Knowlton men with no or weak ties to Stocking. Bless them! http://pw1.netcom.com/~gsdownr/knowlton/index.html Elizabeth W. Knowlton

    3. Hi, Marcia, Many thanks for the info that Benjamin Knowlton and Betsey Grant did actually get married. Did the marriage take place in Gill or in Buckland, do you think? I have a feeling that his second wife was also a Knowlton, possibly from CT, but nothing to back it up. Where did he go in NY state? One son, John R., b. 30 Jan 1812, said he was b. in St. Lawrence, NY. His brother , Benjamin, b. 14 Sep 1813, said he was b. in Constable, Franklin Co., NY. They both died in Coopersville, Ottawa Co., MI. I can't fine any trace of Benjamin, Sr., in either St. Lawrence Co., or Franklin Co. Stocking has lots of info, but I can't verify it. I sure need lots of help on Benjamin! 1. [KNOWLTON] Info. about Daniel Knowlton of Athens County, OH
    2. Appalachian Memories
    3. I am new to this list. My name is Geana Knowlton-Conti. I am a direct descendant of Daniel Knowlton & Ruth Holdren-Knowlton, of Athens County, Ohio. As a child I use to play in a old cemetery near the town where I was raised (Albany, Ohio) I use to call it the Knowlton Grave Yard, because most of the grave stones were for Knowlton's. Recently one of my cousins found a head stone for Ruth Holdren-Knowlton. While cleaning up around the grave stone she found what she thought at first was a large rock. As she dug, she realized it was a head stone. After trying many different things, such as rubbings and such, we still could not make out what the stone said. The historical society suggested that we take shaving cream and layer it on thick across the front of the stone. Then take a flat edge ruler and scrape it away. The shaving cream showed up enough in the indentations that we were able to read the stone. Finally!!!! Daniel Knowlton's grave has been found. If anyon! e would like to go to this cemetery, please contact me. I live in Virginia now, but all of my family are still in Ohio and I go back often. There are several Knowltons buried there and you may find someone you have been trying to find. :) Geana Knowlton-Conti
