I'm always happy when we can place people from such reports as Bob sent us and even happier when we can link them to others within the database. To complete the story re James from Bob's posting - copied below. I know him as James NIBBS who was transported to Tasmania on the Anson in 1844. His description: a protestant, farm labourer 5ft 3/4" dark complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers, light blue eyes. In Tasmania, he married Mary Ann DALTON on 27th March 1853 and lived at Antil Ponds District of Oatlands where the couple had 8 children. A descendant is David BOON who contacted me earlier this year. He tells me that James was living at Akeley at the time of committing the offence but we've not linked him to Joyce's family there. However, from Bob's item it is revealed that one of the accused was Plowman Jones aged 37 who was acquitted. He had married Hannah KNIBBS on 12th June 1827 at Akeley. An uncle leading his nephew astray? I also have an Ann KNIBB married 1 Jan 1822 (Aylesbury) to a Samuel BARBY from Whittlebury. Doubtless related but not a Mafia family, unless it was a basket made of or containing gold! More likely 15 years for a few apples or bread to stave off hunger. I'm glad James prospered in Tasmania. bfn Alan KNIBBS JAMES WHITTLEBURY NORTHAMPTONSHIRE QUARTER SESSIONS JAMES KNIBBS, AGED 23, THOMAS BARBY, AGED 20, & PLOWMAN JONES, AGED 37 (JONES OUT ON BAIL), WERE CHARGED WITH BURGLARIOUSLY BREAKING INTO THE HOUSE OF THOMAS BIRD, OF WHITTLEBURY, AND STEALING THEREFROM A BASKET AND OTHER ARTICLES - KNIBBS AND BARRY GUILTY ; FIFTEEN YEARS TRANSPORTATION.
