Amongst his many other activities my father was a baker in his late-teens to early-20's, from 1932-1936. He worked for Scutter's bakery in Basingstoke, Hampshire. He blamed the hat he used to wear and the heat from the bread oven for his premature loss of hair. He was also a very keen motorcyclist and spent hours tinkering with his motorbike. He once told me that there was nothing like kneading the dough on a Monday morning for getting rid of all the oil from his hands after working on his bike over the weekend! Edward KNIBBS b.1801 in Neithrop, Oxfordshire was a baker between 1833 and 1834. Edward ROSE, a son of Susannah KNIBBS of Deddington, Oxfordshire, was a baker in 1851. George EELY, a son of Jane KNIBBS from Deddington, Oxfordshire was a baker in 1852 James KNIBBS b.1848 in Woodstock, Oxfordshire was a baker between 1871-1889. Charles BLISS who married Mary Ann KNIBBS from Deddington, Oxfordshire was a Farmer and Baker in 1901. William Henry MORLEY, who married Rosa Georgina KNIBBS from Kidlington, Oxfordshire, was a bakers assistant in 1899 and a Journeyman Baker in 1901. In my school days I also worked part time for Shutler's bakery on the Isle of Wight. My main job was cooking the donuts then squirting in the jam and coating them with sugar. Don
