Last month marked the centenary of the birth of my aunt, Phillys Eveline KNIBBS who was born in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England on 11th August 1904. Imagine my surprise and pleasure when I was asked by The National Grid For Learning (Cymru/Wales), if one of the photographs I use of Phillys on my web site could be used for an online lesson for GCSE level education. They are constructing lessons relating to 'Women and Employment in the 20th Century', and the photograph maybe used in the section related to Domestic Servants. I believe it will be used simply as a backdrop to some questions. The photograph at http://knibbs.family.users.btopenworld.com/Photos/f-edmunds.htm shows Phillys (front left) in her first employment as a Domestic Servant, working at St. Edmunds School, Grayshott, Hampshire, England, which is still a school today and coincidentally, just half a mile from where I now live. So here we are 86 years after the photograph was taken, and Phillys is still doing her bit for education! Don
