Peter's posting as above (relevant extract copied below) set me pondering about William KNIBBS born Somerton. As Don has confirmed, he wasn't baptised there c1804 according to the Parish Register, nor can I find him in a nearby parish. Interestingly though there was a William and Mary with family at Lower Heyford and I have recorded him, from somewhere, as a boatman. Now I may have confused him with the William from Brierley Hill or could he be the same man in which case the dates/ages given are awry? This is what I have on the two families: William KNIBBS Born bef1804 Baptised Died Buried Occupation Labourer then Boatman Father Mother * Married (1) 16Oct1820 Lower Heyford Jane BURGINS Born c1799 Baptised Died cApr1825 Buried 1Apr1825 Lower Heyford Children ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Ann KNIBBS Born c1822 Baptised 25Jun1822 Lower Heyford, Oxford, England Died * Married (2) 17Sep1826 Lower Heyford Mary BROOMFIELD Born bef1810 Baptised Died Children ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Thomas KNIBBS Born 1826 Lower Heyford Baptised 6Aug1826 Lower Heyford Died Buried Occupation Broughton 1861 as KNIBB Isabella KNIBBS Born c1827 Baptised 8Jul1827 Lower Heyford, Oxford, England Died Feb1829 Buried 10Feb1829 Lower Heyford Occupation Jane KNIBBS Born c1828 Baptised 17Aug1828 Lower Heyford, Oxford, England Died Buried Occupation James KNIBBS Born c1829 Lower Heyford Baptised 11Oct1829 Lower Heyford, Oxford, England Died 3Qtr1905 Buried Occupation Lower Heyford 1861? 1881? They could account for the marriage at Woodstock District 03qtr 1838. Intriguingly the 1851 Worcs census gives William as a lodger and his apparent children as relations of the HICKS head of the family. Can anyone reconcile all this? One possibility, nay near certainty, that has just ocurred to me is that Jane HICKS is indeed Jane KNIBBS bp 1828 Lower Heyford (b Kingswinford?) ie the lodger's daughter by his previous marriage which would make Emma a true sister-in-law. William therefor must have been older than 47 (perhaps bc1799 like his first wife) but where was he baptised - if at all! - and who were his parents?
