    3. and two more convicts transported to "down under"! Hi everyone, I had previously sent Alan some details I found on the web about a Thos Knibbs apparently sent to Tasmania in 1835. Since then, I've found different information about him that I think is likely to be more accurate. That's because it comes from official sources rather than a private website. So here it is (full records in a GEDCOM I'm sending direct to Alan): Thomas Knibbs: abt 1799 - 1856. Born Oxfordshire, died Parramatta NSW AUS. No record found of marriage or children. (Name recorded as Nibbs on deaths index) Convict, sentenced to 14 yrs (NSW census 1828) Sentenced to 7 yrs (General Muster List of NSW 1823/4/5) From "The convict Ships 1787-1868" by Charles Bateson, 1974: "Royal Charlotte" - arrived 29 Apr 1825, with135 male convicts who landed in Sydney (1 died on the voyage). The ship was a 471 Ton transport, master Mr Corbyn, surgeon Geo Fairfowl. Sailed 5 Jan 1825 from Portsmouth and travelled via Teneriffe, taking 114 days. On 8 March, the surgeon thwarted an alleged plot by 43 convicts to murder the officers and seize the ship. He separated the ring leaders and placed them in irons in different parts of the ship, which ensured no further trouble during the voyage. From Principal Superintendent Of Convicts Bound Indents (see sources): Thomas Knibbs was convicted at Oxford on 29 Jul 1824 for a term of 7 yrs. His native place was Oxfordshire, calling ploughman, age 26 yrs (in 1825), height 5' 9 1/2", complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes blue. Two new convicts are: 1. James Knibbs - b abt 1799 Oxford ENG, m Mary MORRIS 1 Dec 1830 in Hobart TAS AUS. (Mary abt 1801 - 12 Jun 1843) No children found or record of his death. From "The convict Ships 1787-1868" by Charles Bateson, 1974: "Guildford" - arrived Hobart 28 Oct 1820, with 189 male convicts (1 had already been landed in Sydney). The ship was a 521 Ton transport, built at Thames in 1810, master Magnus Johnson, surgeon Hugh Walker. Sailed 14 May 1820 from Portsmouth and travelled via Sydney, taking 167 days. The ship stopped in Sydney from 30 Sep 1820 before sailing for Van Dieman's land on 10 Oct 1820. From Principal Superintendent Of Convicts Bound Indents (see sources): James Knibbs was convicted at Oxford Assizes on 21 Jul 1819 for a term of life imprisonment. His accomplices were Martin Hartwell and Thomas Lonnan and his native place was Oxford, calling labour, age 21 yrs (in 1820), height 5' 7 3/4", hair "flour", eyes hazel. 2. Richard Nibbs - transported to Australia (haven't checked details for town) in ship "Parkfield", arriving 01 Sep 1839. (Have number of the AO microfiche listing his convict Indent details if anyone wants it). Does anyone claim these three criminals? Regards, Stuart Knibbs
