I did save a copy to disk before deleting. I have checked Harriet's machine and it comes up with a proper Windows icon so presume varies depending on version of Windows. I had switched off and turned back on with no ill effects. The site you mentioned doesn't actually say it's an essential file as far as I can see but doubtless is.
