    1. [K/NIBB/S] Death of Barbara GRATTAGE
    2. Don Knibbs
    3. Sadly, I learned today that my dad's cousin Barbara GRATTAGE (nee Stacey) died this afternoon at her home at Bilston, West Midlands. Barbara was born at Bilston in 1916, the youngest daughter of Louis STACEY and Sarah Ethel KNIBBS from Clifton, Oxfordshire. The southern and northern parts of our family rarely met up but I do remember meeting Barbara in about 1962. My dad and Barbara always kept in touch and telephoned eachother on alternate weekends. I took over the responsibility after dad died and have been writing to Barbara. She was intrigued to know what I had learned of the family history and provided me with lots of little family stories that are all now incorporated into my data. It was Barbara who gave me the "Old Trades of Deddington" document that I shared with several on the list recently. In Barbara's latest letter to me, she mentioned a family named Wright who she remembered living at Clifton when she was a small girl. She recalled how the Wrights kept cattle and how she used to call in at the farm to buy the milk and freshly churned butter from Sarah Wright who, she told me, had an incredibly loud voice. Barbara also remembered being told that the Wrights were cousins - but she didn't think they were real cousins. I was really pleased to be able to write back to Barbara to tell her that - yes - they were indeed real cousins. Thomas WRIGHT married Sarah KNIBBS at Deddington in 1861. Sarah KNIBBS was Barbara's father's sister - so all the Wright children were her cousins. I was also able to tell her that my grandfather (who was apparently Barbara's favourite uncle) worked on Thomas Wright's farm from the age of 12 years until he was 19. It was a good feeling to be giving some information in return for all that she'd given me. Don
