Hi Alan No I didn't pick up on any of surnames clues; We are just finding more info since soon came into the picture. I forward her emails to you because I trust you'll have facts and knowledge. I will forward email to Susan. Laura My comments for what they are worth, though you've probably picked up on the points anyway. The surnames BRUNDAGE, BAILEY, WHITNEY haven't cropped up previously within the family as researched. Eugene was born 28 Feb 1850 so assuming the census was later in that year, yes he should be on the 1850 census. I do have him as Eugene W KNIBBS and the middle intiial may hold a clue. Who was baby Mary? Perhaps Susan could look again at my references to son George who was at Minisink with son Charles M born there 1847and another whose name I haven't got. I have 1848 for Amelia's death ie 80 which matches husband Eugene's age. bfn Alan > > On another page are > George Knibb, 60, RR laborer, born in England > Hannah Knibb, 63, respectively, born in England > Abraham Doremus, 25, butcher, born in NJ or NY (hard to read) > Ellen Doremus, 25, born in MY > Matthew Brundage, 27, no occ. listed, born in NY > > > > > Note on the left margin of the original census that both of these families > are living in Dwelling No. 2031, BUT are seperate families > George & Hannah Knibbs are family 2280 > Abraham & Ellen Doremus & Matthew Brundage (perhaps Ellen's brother) are > family 2281. > > One family probably owns the house and the other is probably renting. Joyce Yippee! Now somehow I did have a date for Herbert Henry's death and it differs from the one you have found. I have 6 Feb 1926 at prince Albert SK. So if not yours, who he? The only possibility from the database for Reg is a Charles Reginald KNIBBS who was born in the Thrapston District here in England 1907. I have no further info re him so wonder if he could have emigrated and dropped the Charles? bfn Alan > I hit the jackpot again today. Alan: These Herbert Henry Knibbs are one and the same. My aunt always said Herbert was buried in Prince Albert and that is all I went by. However I had some doubt because a lady from the Prince Albert genealogical society had given me all of the Knibbs names that were buried in Prince Albert and Herbert was not one of them. His cousin Alexander was the one buried in P.A. February 6, 1926 should be the January one I sent today. I can not see the cemetery having the incorrect date. I am going to go to the Saskatchewan Archives next week to look at the Stoughton Times newspapers. These newspapers are not at the library. Hoping to find an obituary. Regarding my Charles Knibbs: There is a picture in the Knibbs book that has the names Jim & Eliza Bugge captioned. I now believe this to be Charles and his wife because of the Salvation army uniform the man is wearing. Everyone told me and insisted this was Jim & Eliza because Jim also had some ties to the Salvation ARmy in the USA but here again I had some doubt because I have another picture of Jim & Eliza and I do not think they are the same couple. The ladies could be taken asthe same but I had doubts about the men. bfn Joyce Jackari2@aol.com wrote: >Joyce > >Yippee! > >Now somehow I did have a date for Herbert Henry's death and it differs from >the one you have found. Actually I have Hard copy of all 3 census records and will explain the one n a message dated 4/29/2004 5:53:55 PM Eastern Standard Time, LKNIBBS@HVC.RR.COM writes: On another page are George Knibb, 60, RR laborer, born in England Hannah Knibb, 63, respectively, born in England Abraham Doremus, 25, butcher, born in NJ or NY (hard to read) Ellen Doremus, 25, born in MY Matthew Brundage, 27, no occ. listed, born in NY Note on the left margin of the original census that both of these families are living in Dwelling No. 2031, BUT are seperate families George & Hannah Knibbs are family 2280 Abraham & Ellen Doremus & Matthew Brundage (perhaps Ellen's brother) are family 2281. One family probably owns the house and the other is probably renting. They are not necessarily related to one another. There has to be a reason why 2 Knibbs children: Eugene age 11 yr and Mary age 2 months have been "farmed out" to other families. Especially since Mary is in the household of an elderly couple. Could James and Phebe Wilson be the maternal grandparents of Mary Knibbs? What about Nathaniel and Arminda L. Bailey? Why is Eugene Knibbs in the household? Kindly neighbor's that took him in? Or was Arminta his Aunt? Or was Arminta his mother and she remarried to Nathaniel Whitney? There are infinite possibilities. The answer may lie in finding Eugene Knibbs in the 1850 census. If he was 11 years old in 1860 - was he actually born in 1849 not 1850? Or is the census in error? Anyway he will be a child 1 year old or less in the 1850 census - that is one of the things I will be looking for. From Census index entries, [I will get census copy when I get to the archives] 1840 New York George W. NIbbs resided Goshen, Orange Co., NY [He is the only Knibbs, or any variation of the name that I found in Orange Co., NY] 1850 - found 2 entries Elisa Nibbs of Hamptonburgh, Orange Co., NY George Nibbs of Minisink, Orange Co., NY I saw but did not yet copy the George Nibbs entry George Nibbs 48 England born abt 1802 Hannah Nibbs 51 England born abt 1799 Harriet Knibbs 13 NY born abt 1837 John Knibbs 4 NY born abt 1846 Joanna Knibbs 19 NY born abt 1831 Another front, I have found the first clue in finding Amelia HUFF First, as I mentioned before, there is a discrepancy in the age of Amelia as a child and Amelia as an adult. If I read the tombstone picture correctly, the birth date says 1848 not 1843 Her age in the later census records is 1880 32 years old [born 1848 1900 53 years old born Mar 1847 1910 62 years old [born 1848] 1920 71 years old [born 1849] Before her marriage - I am still looking for the 1870 census - bu t 1860 - Amelia Huff age 17 years domestic in household of James Hall that she would mean she was born in 1843 And now I have found the 1850 census Monroe, Orange Co., NY Josiah Huff 47 NY Abigail Huff 37 NY Delia Huff 11 Ny Mille Huff 7 NY born 1843 Matilda Huff 2 NY Mille in 1850 and Amelia in 1860 are the same person first age 7 then ten years later age 17. What verifies this one is that in 1880 census Amelia's married sister Matilda is in the household. It might be wise if I say a little bit more about myself, I am a CGRS, [certified genealogical records specialist] I do this for a living. I really want to hep my friend Joan, but since I don't live near Orange Co., NY I can not go look for documents that have not been published and put in the DAR library or put on microfilm. I would be happy to send you copies of any census, land, probate etc that I find in exchange for copies of records not on film or in print. I think we are going to figure this all out, it just may take a little time. I will be going to Washington the beginning of next week and will let you know what I find Sincerely, Susan L. Bingler

Alan: I hit the jackpot again today. You will recall that I had never found out where Herbert Knibbs was buried. Alan, Thanks for the lead to the MOD - I phoned the number you gave and they put me in touch with the Royal Navy Medals Office in Gosport. As Ernest is still living it's a relatively simple process. He has to write in giving his name and service number and asking to be issued with his medal entitlement. They will have a medal card on file for him, and if they are happy he hasn't already received them, they just despatch them to him. In many ways it seems sad that they just get sent in the post with no ceremony whatsoever, but I believe that was how they were issued even straight after the war. I still have my dad's little brown box that came through the post with his medals in. Do we have any of Ernest's ancestors on the list? I've told Leah that if they have a party in his honour when he receives his medals, I like a photo of Ernest with medals pinned proudly on his chest. Don
Alan, I also found record of Emma Knibbs born in Balscott, Oxfordshire on 21 March 1824 and Linda Knibbs born in Balscott on 16 Sept 1825. Their parents were Thomas and Mary. I wonder if they might be two of the three children of the Thomas transported in 1829 mentioned in my previous message? Alan, I have a record of a Thomas Nibbs transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in 1829. The details I have are as follows. Thomas Knibbs per 'Mary' 1829. He was tried in Middlesex but was from Oxfordshire. I couldn't make out the actual place name but will check other records. He was married in England to Mary and they had 3 children. I will be going to the archives here again in about a fortnight if not sooner so will check up on him. Don I don't think we have any relations on list but then I do find it difficult to keep track of everyone. So if anybody out there, please yell! Can Leah please confirm if my birth date for Ernest is wrong? Yes it would be good to see such a photo and one of anyone else with their medals. David Small world. Listen out Laura! Aha I see now. I did have a duplicate conjectured entry for the Thomas KNIBBS I mentioned who died at Paramatta in 1856. It was the transportation of seven years in 1824 that threw me - I don't know from where I obtained that but now I think it must be wrong. The family in Balscott appear in the records as KNIBB. If you would like a copy, please ask and I'll send off-list. bfn Alan Alan Jackson Host at The K/NIBB/S One Name Study & Mailing List Website address http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~knibbetc Did you know? Joyce. He is just on the list wit quite a few others. Nothing, except his army serial number, more than in the message. Ritchie
Stuart found an entry in 'The Times' archive relating to the sentencing at the Old Bailey of a Thomas NIBBS in September 1829. He was to be transported for 14 years. I do have a record of a Thoams KNIBBS bc1798, ploughman from Oxfordshire, who was transported for seven years having been sentenced on 29 July 1824 and who died at Paramatta NSW in 1856. Can anyone shed light on the 1829 convicted Thomas, who he was and where he ended his days? Presumably as it was the Old Bailey he came from the London area. bfn Alan Alan Jackson Host at The K/NIBB/S One Name Study & Mailing List Website address http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~knibbetc Did you know? Joyce Well found you! On a quick search I see that haven't entered Allan Brown K/NIBBS into the database which is strange if I had him on a list from you. I'll check all correspondence but I'm not hopeful of finding it. bfn Alan > Well I just came back from the library with good news. I found Charles' > marriage registration. Alan I'm thinking that maybe I did not give you the info because I also did not know where he fit in. I know I took a look at the death record several times because the place of death was so close to that of his aunt and uncle. I know there were quite a few BMD's sent to you, however maybe we were looking for specific names. This information I had sent was probably well over a year or two ago. I also remember that Allan Brown Knibbs wasn't even a year old if my memory serves me correctly. I also found a web site that deals with USA census records that you may want to take a look at. There are some Knibbs's on it, however they are not part of my tree. The site is http://www.us-census.org/ bfn Joyce Jackari2@aol.com wrote: >Joyce > >Well found you! This is connected to KNIBBS otherwise I wouldn't have posted it. I am looking for some help please. I received the attached from a lady named Leah LOCKETT in Australia today. Can anyone help? My father Ernest Edward Knibbs born 02.04.1919, served in the Navy in WWII. He never bothered to collect his medals, after the war, as I think when he came back he was soon divorced. And also he just wanted to forget the War. Is it possible to write to some one in England and collect these medals, now. I think it would be a nice surprise for him. I know someone who has done a similar thing here in Australia for their Grandfather. Last week we went to an Anzac Day service at our daughters school , and I managed to get him to come along as a special guest, which was amazing, there were two other WWII serving gentlemen there and they were decked out with their medals and I felt for my Dad. I thought it might be a nice gesture - but as I am so far away, I don't know whom I should write to, or where to begin. If you have any idea's or suggestions, I would really appreciate them Leah Lockett nee Knibbs. Don
Alan: Well I just came back from the library with good news. I found Charles' marriage registration. According to the newspaper clipping Charles and his wife had a two month old child when Charles died and would have been born in August of 1891. Charles's name was spelled Nibbs, so because I had accounted for all of the Knibbs marriages and the fact that he was only 21 when he died I did not think he was married. I found a birth record for Allan Brown Nibbs born August `14, 1891 in Owen Sound Ontario. I think this is the son of Charles and his wife. Now do you recall me sending you information on death records a long time ago? I can not find my copy of the death registration. If you recollect one of those death records was for a Allan Brown Knibbs who died February 25, 1892 in Keppel Township in Grey County. If this is the child of Charles, I will not have to do anymore researching because there were no descendents other than Allan. It looks to me like Allan and his mother (?) may ahave been living close to Thomas & Jane Knibbs. Thomas & Jane being Charles' aunt & uncle. I have ordered films for Charles marriage and Allan Nibbs birth. Will let you know as you probably have not attached Allan Brown Nibbs to anyone. bfn Joyce
