Hi Alan: I would like to help, however I am not able to do so at this time as my husband is not very well. He has basically lost the use of his arms and legs and needs constant assistance. This has put a very limited amount of time that I can spend on genealogy. He will not get better only worse unfortunately. I look forward to any connections that can add to my Knibbs tree. Thank you for everything you and everyone have done in the past. Hopefully I will not have to unsubscribe as this emial list is invaluable. Joyce
Alan, Also happy to chip in but have never used 1837- online so hope its not complicated. My main interest is of course KNIBBS but if you need to allocate otherwise then just tell me. It's quite amazing isn't it Christine. My greatest surprise was when I cam across the obituary of one of Ana Rizzo's grandparents (Ana you probably know as a subscriber to this list) - her grandparents were Harold and Pearl Knibbs, They were a different generation and across the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, yet they shared the same names as my parents, also Harold and Pearl Knibbs Don ----- Original Message ----- From: <paulchris@atkinseb.freeserve.co.uk> To: <KNIBB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 27, 2004 10:21 PM Subject: Re: [K/NIBB/S] Phillys KNIBBS b.1904 Basingstoke, Hampshire > On reading your e-mail it just struck me as strange how names are so often repeated when you think you are or know the only one. Alan Count me in for £5's worth of KNIBB overseas BMDs downloading. Robin
Hi Alan :) If you don't get enough volunteers, let me know and I'll chip in too. If someone in the UK can do it though it would be cheaper, the US dollar isn't doing too well against the British Pound at the moment. Had to happen when I want to start buying genealogy CDs didn't it? GRRRRRRR!!! Anyway, I'm here as a backup if needed!! :D Take care, Rob. A quick look reveals a large number of K/NIBB/S and time, if nothing else, makes me wonder if we could share the task of downloading amongst listers. There's a cost element also ie £5 for 50 units. Only if one pays the charge can the full record be seen. However, from what I can gauge on a search for births 1761-2003, only one page per entry seems to be the norm, so every unit used should reveal a K/NIBB/S, unlike the normal indexes where two pages can sometimes be needed to locate the correct individual - many more for common surnames. I suspect that my search for KNIBB brought up KNIBBS as well but experience would tell us if that is indeed the case. If it is then perhaps we can divide the task by one lister taking on £5 worth of the KNIBB births and another £5 worth of the NIBBS births and similarly split the marriages and deaths. This way, we might only need 6 volunteers in total but if £5 doesn't cover all of a particular batch, perhaps on a second trawl for volunteers someone else can complete that batch. Any takers? If so, please can you state which batch you would like to tackle ie KNIBB or NIBBS and births, marriages or deaths. Then just wait a while for me as co-ordinator to give the go-ahead - otherwise we could find ourselves duplicating efforts. bfn Alan Alan Jackson Host at The K/NIBB/S One Name Study & Mailing List Website address http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~knibbetc Did you know? On reading your e-mail it just struck me as strange how names are so often repeated when you think you are or know the only one. My Mum was Phyllis Evelyn Nibbs - all completely different spellings of course and born about 10 years later. "So here we are 86 years after the photograph was taken, and Phillys is still doing her bit for education!" That's wonderful Don!! :D It's nice too to know that our work on our sites is appreciated isn't it? :D Take care, Rob.
Peter Very interesting, thank you. I suspect John was from Dorsington and Thomas was from Wotton under Edge. I haven't linked their families into any others so am keen to obtain copies of their Wills. Don Thanx for this. Looks like George Valentine KNIBB 1780 -1817, Solicitor of Tring. Anyway he was born at Newport Pagnell but possibly brother Josiah who I've not traced into adulthood. bfn Alan > from The Northampton Mercury > > Saturday, April 30th, 1796 > > To be SOLD by AUCTION, > By Mr.KNIBB, > > At the Swan Inn, at Newport-Pagnell, between the Hours of Four an Six in the > Afternoon of Wednesday the 4th of May, 1796.
Last month marked the centenary of the birth of my aunt, Phillys Eveline KNIBBS who was born in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England on 11th August 1904. Imagine my surprise and pleasure when I was asked by The National Grid For Learning (Cymru/Wales), if one of the photographs I use of Phillys on my web site could be used for an online lesson for GCSE level education. They are constructing lessons relating to 'Women and Employment in the 20th Century', and the photograph maybe used in the section related to Domestic Servants. I believe it will be used simply as a backdrop to some questions. The photograph at http://knibbs.family.users.btopenworld.com/Photos/f-edmunds.htm shows Phillys (front left) in her first employment as a Domestic Servant, working at St. Edmunds School, Grayshott, Hampshire, England, which is still a school today and coincidentally, just half a mile from where I now live. So here we are 86 years after the photograph was taken, and Phillys is still doing her bit for education! Don
I would be pleased to take up your generous offer of an Excel copy of the NBI extracts at your convenience. Ihave not been active with my own family history for the last few months but I can't let your kind offer go by. g smith -- www.tasmail.com
