    3. I've made a few adjustments to the group photo and hope that people will see it as an improvement. I hadn't realised just how much effect the shadow of the tree would make and I'm sure that those who've looked at the photo on the web will have noticed that it's hard to see the faces of anyone in the shadows. I've lightened it a little. If anyone prefers the original darker one, let me know as I could always put both on there together. Don

    2. Don Knibbs
    3. Following on from Alan, the photos are now all up on the web. Apologies in advance for anyone who was missed and I'm sure, for any names that I may have got wrong. Let me know of any errors and I'll put them right immediately. The photos are available at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~knibbs/Warwick/w0.htm or alternatively, through the Photo Gallery of my web page. These are all the same as the ones that Alan has already displayed on his web site, but better quality. We wanted to get them out quickly and the simple way to do that was for me to transfer the smaller, lower quality images to Alan on floppy disks before leaving Warwick, then playing with the higher quality ones when I got home. I've tried to balance out quality of picture vs.. time taken to load onto your PC's and I hope I've achieved it. Each image is between 160-240 kb, so not too large to download. The above link takes you to an introductory page, and from there to 4 pages of thumbnails of the photos. Clicking on any of the thumbnails does two things: The image will be transferred onto your PC. Firstly it will appear as a photo approx 7" x 5" in a new window. At the same time it will be downloaded onto your PC at a size of approx 22" x 16" for later viewing or printing. When the image is displayed on your screen, simply RIGHT click on your mouse, then click on "Save Picture As" to save it to your disk. I hope that makes sense? Any problems or queries then feel free to give me a shout. Don ps The background image I've used is of the Friends Meeting Place at Warwick.

    1. [K/NIBB/S] Page 10 nearing completion
    2. I've now added the static thumbnail pictures of the Warwick Gathering to Page 10. These take you to larger versions where you can use the cursor to find out who's who. Just follow the on-screen instructions. However, Don has worked some miracles particularly on the Group photo which he will tell you all about. He also has a photo of himself after the event which I feel we must have on the Study website to complete the 'picture'. Three cheers for Don. Michèle has composed a sonnet of the event which appears below the slideshow on page 10 and is reproduced at the end of this email. I am told it is National Poetry Day on Thursday, so very fitting. I discovered that only the bottom link on the larger pictures from the slideshow was working correctly so have sorted out the top one. I hope no one struggled as a result of my ineptitude. Tomorrow or perhaps later in the week I will add some descriptions to the larger photos from the slideshow. I had intended mouseovers like the others but they take a heck of a long time to construct. Are they useful - [question mark/exclamation mark]. bfn Alan Host at The K/NIBB/S One Name Study Website - Quick link to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/knibbetc/page10.htm Warwick - 29 September 2001 When I told my cousin dedicated K/NIBB/S researchers planned to hold a meeting his laughter shook the phone. "What!?" I waited. "So Alan's not the only one accreting births and deaths, producing his conjectures" "Not at all!"', I bristled, "This convention will have graphs, wall charts and learned lectures on world-wide trees (with some brand new extensions)." But then I panicked: could it be the list which occupies him day and night (it's true) was some elaborate e-mail hoax I'd missed? What if there was no Audrey, Don or Sioux? Relief - when rain-soaked through the door they came notorious and glorious, all K/NIBB/S by name.

    1. [K/NIBB/S] Well done Alan and All
    2. Riley, Chris (Cowley)
    3. Well Alan congratulations are in order for a truely well organised first gathering . Many thanks to Michele are also due for the reception and help in the refreshments and every body else who helped . The whole event was superb , from attendance , to displays , Presentations and the sharing of every bodies experiences . Roll on Kettering !!! >From my personal point of view , the event really brought home the geographical closeness of all these knibbs families , particularly in the Northaptonshire region . Secondly as you say Alan , the discussions with Harold did bring some nice surprises , with his experiences at Cadburys , and his meeting with my wifes Grand father who also worked at Cadburys . We hope to compare notes along with Alex to see if there are any other connections . Putting faces to names has put the web site into a new dimension and closeness and hopefully this will benefit research in all knibbs regions. Lastly i notice that several researchers are on aol . What about setting up a chat room meeting perhaps every quarter so as to share the latest progress on a more personal level . See what you think. 3. Re-sending -----Original Message----- From: Stuart Knibbs [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, 30 September, 2001 9:51 To: Knibbs mailing list Subject: New (?) NSW Knibbs marriages and deaths Hi everyone, I recently went through the entire NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages index on their website looking for Knibbs listings from 1850 onwards, (I wasn't interested in ones before John Handley Knibbs arrived here that year.) and I found a whole lot of Knibbs marriages (10) and some deaths (4) that I hadn't heard of since they appear to be unrelated to my line (from Kidderminster WOR via Bridgnorth SHR). So they are listed below - does anyone claim them? I checked them on Alan's GRO and IGI indexes but the closest I came to a match seems to be that the Henry Knibbs who died in 1913 might have been the Henry George Knibbs listed on the GRO index as born in 2nd quarter 1879 in Windsor district and the son of James Knibbs. I also found that none of these "new" Knibbses are recorded as being born in NSW, checking the whole index from 1788 to 1905. The other really interesting thing, I think, is that there is a Arthur Knibb - Pamela Knibbs marriage! Are there any other known K/NIBB/S inter-marriages, I wonder? I'm sure Alan would know of them if there are? Hope someone can find a connection between the following people and their line(s). I look forward to seeing your photo (if you did send an attachment with your email to me I didn't receive it). On a serious note we are still horrified by the recent events in New York but are full of admiration for the great spirit and resilience shown by New Yorkers in the response to the atrocities. It was good to hear from you. Robin

    2. Many thanks to Alan and Michele for organising an enjoyable event and I marvel at Alan's energy and enthusiasm with his report and photos already posted on the website. Even though I didn't manage to find any links with other KNIBB(S) present it was good to put faces to names and exchange ideas. My only disappointment was not being asked to take my shoes and socks off so that I could proudly display a second toe longer than the first! I also got stuck at Brighton railway station for three hours on the way home whilst they switched off power to clear passengers off the line at Fishersgate (at least it wasn't leaves!) but even this didn't spoil my very enjoyable day. 3. Alan and Michelle thank you both so much for making today possible. Thanks especially to Alan for his endless patience in answering questions and Michelle for working so cheerfully in the kitchen. We had a really good time - different and very interesting. It was great too, to match names and faces and hear family stories. There seemed to be an amazing variety of K/NIBB/S there and I have to admit my long held assumption that K/NIBB/S were small people, was completely shattered! For those that couldn't be there, the Friends Meeting House was an ideal place with the town at the front door and peaceful gardens at the back. The weather was so warm we even lunched outside, or some of us did. Don we are looking forward to seeing the group photograhs. It was a good beginning. All for now. Muriel Bolton

    1. [K/NIBB/S] Thanks Alan & Michele
    2. Don Knibbs
    3. Well - I'm back home already after a wonderful day at Warwick after the gathering of the Clan. I really enjoyed the day so thanks Alan and Michele for all of the hard work that must have gone into arranging it. Well done - it was a great day. Sioux Fennessy mistook me for her dead uncle but I didn't let that spoil the day! I'm now beginning to count the cost - my wife Shirley decided not to come with me and instead, went shopping with my two daughters. When they said shopping, I assumed Marks & Spencers. How wrong I was - it was antique shops! Apparently the dining room furniture we have is very dated and in need of replacement. I don't quite follow the logic as we bought it in the 70's so if that's dated, why are they looking at antiques? On the positive side of things, I've promised to go with her tomorrow morning to look at what she's found with the agreement that I can play on the PC in the afternoon sorting out the photographs from today. Alan has got mini versions of the photos and will be posting some of them on his web page. These should be fine for viewing on the screen but if anyone tries to save them and zoom in, they'll find that the quality is very poor. What I'm planning on doing is to load the higher quality versions up onto the web so that everyone can look at them there. They will also be downloadable at the higher quality so that they can be played with and printed at home. I might even be willing to run off prints for anyone who doesn't have a photo quality printer at home. I'll let everyone know when they're available and how to gain access. All being well, I'm hoping to do that tomorrow (Sunday). By the way - I'm keeping up the day job! On the genealogy front, I believe that Bob Knibbs and I managed to find a connection between my Oxford Knibbs who I lost after they moved to London. Bob was able to pick up the trail so I'm very interested in following that one up. Not sure if it means Bob and I are from the same line or not. We should soon find out. I believe it was Gilbert and someone else who told me that they believe I hold the key that joins the Oxfordshire Knibbs to the Northampton Knibbs. I may well have but at the moment, I'm not aware of it. I'll certainly have a dig around to see what connection I can find with Northampton. If I find one, I'll report back. Alan - Help! For Sioux, I couldn't recognise any of the non-Knibbs names in her tree so couldn't see any connection. However, I remember coming across a Violet Lilly May Knibbs, a boot-lacer on the internet on someone's web page. If I'm right, she is one of Sioux's so I'll dig around to see if I can find it again. Enough for now. One again, a great day Alan and Michele so thanks! It's a pity that the entire KNIBB mailing list couldn't be there but maybe one day. Don

Makes everything worthwhile but none of it would happened without each and everyone of you all out there.
