    3. Hi Alan, I’m at work so can’t get the Gedcom with convict data to you yet but will re-send from home soonest. Meanwhile I’ve been looking at some info on the web about William Nibbs (various) marriages in Tasmania last century, mostly on the Tas Archives Office “Colonial Tasmanian Family Links Database” at http://pioneers.archives.tas.gov.au/ It’s not as good as the CD ROM BDM index I looked at in the library last night but does show some good info, including family links in some cases. >From this, I see that they have William Nibbs married Sarah Randell in 1847 at Hobart (not 1834) and that this William was born in 1805. (Sarah was born in 1799). She is also listed as “Knibbs, or Randall Sarah”, born 1801, died 1851 at Hobart. There are several more listings for Nibb/s and Knibb/s on this database if people are interested. Cheers, Stuart >Many thanx Stuart for the further info on Thomas and for these. > >> Two new convicts are: >> >> 1. 1. [K/NIBB/S] More K/Nibbs Convict Info
    2. Stuart Knibbs
    3. and two more convicts transported to "down under"! Hi everyone, I had previously sent Alan some details I found on the web about a Thos Knibbs apparently sent to Tasmania in 1835. Since then, I've found different information about him that I think is likely to be more accurate. That's because it comes from official sources rather than a private website. So here it is (full records in a GEDCOM I'm sending direct to Alan): Thomas Knibbs: abt 1799 - 1856. Born Oxfordshire, died Parramatta NSW AUS. No record found of marriage or children. (Name recorded as Nibbs on deaths index) Convict, sentenced to 14 yrs (NSW census 1828) Sentenced to 7 yrs (General Muster List of NSW 1823/4/5) From "The convict Ships 1787-1868" by Charles Bateson, 1974: "Royal Charlotte" - arrived 29 Apr 1825, with135 male convicts who landed in Sydney (1 died on the voyage). The ship was a 471 Ton transport, master Mr Corbyn, surgeon Geo Fairfowl. Sailed 5 Jan 1825 from Portsmouth and travelled via Teneriffe, taking 114 days. On 8 March, the surgeon thwarted an alleged plot by 43 convicts to murder the officers and seize the ship. He separated the ring leaders and placed them in irons in different parts of the ship, which ensured no further trouble during the voyage. From Principal Superintendent Of Convicts Bound Indents (see sources): Thomas Knibbs was convicted at Oxford on 29 Jul 1824 for a term of 7 yrs. His native place was Oxfordshire, calling ploughman, age 26 yrs (in 1825), height 5' 9 1/2", complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes blue. Two new convicts are: 1. James Knibbs - b abt 1799 Oxford ENG, m Mary MORRIS 1 Dec 1830 in Hobart TAS AUS. (Mary abt 1801 - 12 Jun 1843) No children found or record of his death. From "The convict Ships 1787-1868" by Charles Bateson, 1974: "Guildford" - arrived Hobart 28 Oct 1820, with 189 male convicts (1 had already been landed in Sydney). The ship was a 521 Ton transport, built at Thames in 1810, master Magnus Johnson, surgeon Hugh Walker. Sailed 14 May 1820 from Portsmouth and travelled via Sydney, taking 167 days. The ship stopped in Sydney from 30 Sep 1820 before sailing for Van Dieman's land on 10 Oct 1820. From Principal Superintendent Of Convicts Bound Indents (see sources): James Knibbs was convicted at Oxford Assizes on 21 Jul 1819 for a term of life imprisonment. His accomplices were Martin Hartwell and Thomas Lonnan and his native place was Oxford, calling labour, age 21 yrs (in 1820), height 5' 7 3/4", hair "flour", eyes hazel. 2. Richard Nibbs - transported to Australia (haven't checked details for town) in ship "Parkfield", arriving 01 Sep 1839. (Have number of the AO microfiche listing his convict Indent details if anyone wants it). Does anyone claim these three criminals? Regards, Stuart Knibbs

I found the reference to the Will of George Langford NIBBS a descendant of the arms bearing James Langford NIBBS. To view the image cost me 3UKP which I paid by credit card. Sorry also about that and the gap towards the end of my message of Friday where I set out the NIBBS deaths from the Sydney Morning Telegraph. As for William, are you suggesting there is a NIBBS contender and if so remember he would have to be a Briton? 1. [K/NIBB/S] H Knibbs, Poynton, Cheshire mid-1800's
    2. Don Knibbs
    3. I came across the following Knibbs in an article related to the Cheshire mining community. From what I can make out, it relates to The Vernon Lodge at Poynton in Cheshire which was a Friendly Society formed in 1830 with the objectives of "insuring sums of money for the burial of deceased members and their wives, rendering assistance to members when sick, assisting members travelling in search of employment and granting temporary relief to members in distressed circumstances?' Following is a description from the Stockport Advertiser in August 1894 of the anniversary of the Loyal Vernon Lodge- "There was a muster of about 120 members, at the headquarters, the Vernon Arms. Headed by the excellent village band, the members walked through the village, and returning attended a short service held by the Rev. T. Bridges, who delivered an appropriate address. Leaving the church the procession was continued through the other parts of the village up Park Lane, by Newtown, Ward's End, Dickens Lane to the Vernon Arms, where a capital dinner was provided. Bro. J. Hallam was called to preside, Mr. H. Peover was the pianist, and Mr. H. Knibbs, harpist. After a loyal toast and toasts to the Manchester Unity, Marple District and Vernon Lodge the secretary responded, showing that the gain for the past eight months had been £49 8s 10 1/2d. Nine new members had been admitted and one death had taken place .... Songs, recitations, banjo and harp selections varied the programme." There is not other mention of Mr H Knibbs other than him being the harpist at the above event. Full details are available at http://www.brocross.com/poynton/book11.htm Don

For "Knibb" there was one match, a school in Oregon County, MO formerly named "Knibbin Ridge School". For "Nibb" there are 10 entries... maybe other list members would know if they relate to people. -- *Marsha L. 1. [K/NIBB/S] US Census Images
    2. Found this explanation while poking around ancestry.com: Ancestry.com has posted all the images for the 1790 through 1920 censuses (for a complete list of counties use our browse feature). These records contain more than 425 million names, are easy to read, and represent the most important and sought-after group of genealogical records in the United States. This information allows researchers to determine family structure, age, residence, occupation, and much more. Ancestry.com has also posted searchable indexes of the heads of household for the 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, and 1840 censuses. These indexes are linked to the corresponding census images. Images for other census years are browseable by state, county and township/enumeration district. Additional head-of-household indexes are added to this exciting and growing collection on a weekly basis. Which means that my subscription will allow me to easily look up anyone in the 1840 and earlier censuses. Unfortunately, all they recorded then was the number of males & females in age categories, with only the head of household named. If there's a name you'd like to have looked up, let me know... I'll let the list know when the latter indices are posted. (Myself, I'm very interested in the 1860 and later; my Westerholds arrived in 1857.) -- *Marsha L.
