I cannot believe my luck!. The Jennifer Knibbs I referred to in a previous email (a Knibbs by marriage) has put me in touch with her sister-in-law Kim Knibbs also in New York, who, by strange coincidence, I had 'spoken' to well over a year ago. There was no apparent connection at that time, but we communicated regularly until suddenly, she disappeared. Jennifer told Kim about my web page and when Kim looked at the details of the New York Knibbs, she found a connection with Cornelius Knibbs, the son of Joseph and Hannah Bennett of Somerton in Oxfordshire, who emigrated to New York in about 1840. Cornelius is the one that we've only just found the details of in Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, USA. Kim is the g.g.granddaughter of Cornelius. Kim has been able to verify that Cornelius had a son James J Knibbs who married to Edith Talady (not Talada as I had it). Kim is descended from this line. The information that Kim has given me is as follows (with dates for living individuals removed): Descendants of Cornelius Knibbs 1 Cornelius Knibbs b: Bef. February 9, 1834 d: 1904 in Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, USA Baptism: February 9, 1834 Somerton, Oxfordshire, England .. +Rosmand Unknown b: Abt. 1838 in England d: Unknown in Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, USA . 2 James J Knibbs b: Abt. 1862 in New York, USA d: April 16, 1901 in Troy, New York, USA ..... +Edith Talady b: Abt. 1869 m: September 16, 1885 in Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, USA d: February 1, 1922 in Buffalo, New York, USA .... 3 Cornelius Knibbs b: Abt. 1886 d: October 26, 1951 ........ +Ruth Margaret Shay b: in Berkston, Pennsylvania, USA m: February 20, 1915 in Buffalo, New York, USA .... 3 Gertrude Knibbs .... 3 Raymond Leon Knibbs b: May 4, 1890 in Athens, Pennsylvania, USA d: July 18, 1976 in Buffalo, New York, USA ........ +Hazel Bills m: February 23, 1916 in Fairport, New York, USA ....... 4 Millard Knibbs ....... 4 Susan Knibbs ....... 4 Richard Knibbs .... *2nd Wife of Raymond Leon Knibbs: ........ +Lorreta Bauer m: April 26, 1921 in Buffalo, New York, USA ....... 4 Robert Knibbs ....... 4 Joan Fay Knibbs ....... 4 Donna Rose Knibbs ....... 4 Ronald Andrew Knibbs ....... 4 Unknown Twin Knibbs ....... 4 Unknown Twin Knibbs ....... 4 Unknown Knibbs .... *3rd Wife of Raymond Leon Knibbs: ........ +Anna Hampson m: October 27, 1922 in Buffalo, New York, USA .... *4th Wife of Raymond Leon Knibbs: ........ +Unknown m: August 13, 1927 in Fairport, New York, USA .... *5th Wife of Raymond Leon Knibbs: ........ +Marion Null ...... 4 Daniel Knibbs .... 3 Emma Knibbs .... 3 Elmo Knibbs .... 3 Besse Knibbs b: Abt. 1888 d: October 16, 1918 in Buffalo, New York, USA ........ +Unknown I believe James J Knibbs also had a sister Elizabeth which Kim hasn't mentioned, so hopefully, I will be able to feed some information back to her that she hasn't so far seen. Don
Don, This sounds very interesting. I would love to hear more info if anymore comes in. Ana
Audrey, Rick Duff's website is at http://www.telusplanet.net/public/duffland/genealogy/. There's a Surnames index to help you find the entry for Ronald. As I suspected, Rick isn't that interested in knowing more about Ronald Knibbs. The reply he sent me today is as follows: "I have very little info on this person and his direct relatives. All I can tell you is that other people at the same generation level in the tree were born between 1914 and 1933. I know that is not much to go on and it really doesn't nail down the time frame - but we always play the odds in this game don't we. I will ask my daughter-in-law if she knows of anyone on their side who might have more info. I know that some of her relatives do family research (the source of my info) so you never know what might turn up. Give me a few days and I'll let you know what she says." So, fingers crossed. Maybe a Knibbs researcher will turn up amongst his in-laws. If I hear any more I'll keep you posted. Just a quick line to say I've managed to make contact with more Knibbs in New York. Jennifer Knibbs (a Knibbs by marriage) is studying her own family lineage and has her data on the Internet under Genealogy.com. As far as I can make out, there are no Knibbs in her data but thankfully, the data is under her married name, otherwise I'd never have found her. I can't see any connection with Ana Knibbs-Rizzo but was wondering at first if it maybe a connection with Ana's George Knibbs who we've never been able to trace. That would be too much to hope for. Jennifer doesn't know much about the Knibbs side of things but has promised to put me in touch with her sister-in-law (a true Knibbs by birth). Apparently, she did some research a while ago but found it got too complicated and gave up. The information Jennifer has given me is as follows: Her father-in-law is Ronald Knibbs and he has three siblings Robert, Donna and Joan. All are still living. Ronald and his siblings were all born in Buffalo, New York. Their parents were Leon Knibbs and Loretta Knibbs (Bauer) Leon was quite a ladies man and apparently had eight wives and, from what Jennifer understands, had many more children in addition to the four he had with Loretta. Jennifer's sister-in-law has found the marriage certificate of his first seven wives but not one for his marriage to Loretta - but she knows for certain they were married. I guess it was Leon' love for the ladies that made the research so complicated. Anyway, that's all I've learned for now. Hopefully I'll hear from Jennifer's sister-in-law shortly and will keep the list posted. Don
Audrey, Would you believe I've lost the address of the web page. Not a problem though. I've dropped Rick a line asking him to remind me. I don't think he has an interest in Knibb or Knibbs - Ronald Knibbs was just one who married into the line that he's researching. I posted the info to the list wondering if it would be of interest from our side. I'll get back to you as soon as I hear from Rick. Congrats Alan. It is very nice to get recognition for all of your efforts. Joyce
Does anyone have access to records from Canada? I'm looking into finding whether my great, great, great Grandfather Joseph Knibbs ship landed there. He left England in 1840-1844. I have in Albany with his family in 1844. I would appreciate any help in this quest. Ana
Within the database, I have an 'unclaimed' Canadian Ronald who was the son of James and had a brother Gerald and sister Irene. I too picked up the info by surfing the net and would hope to find a home for the family idc. bfn Alan > I don't know if anyone has a connection with Ronald Knibbs but just in case, > I received this from a Rick Duff who has him listed in his family tree > data:- > > "My info on Ronald KNIBBS is very limited. I don't know if anyone has a connection with Ronald Knibbs but just in case, I received this from a Rick Duff who has him listed in his family tree data:- "My info on Ronald KNIBBS is very limited. All I have is that he married a Shirley Fluorine SEAMAN. The SEAMAN line is on my daughter in law's side of the family - several layers up. She was 1 of 12 children in the family. Sorry - but I have no info on the KNIBBS line. Shirley's father was born in New Brunswick, Canada and her mother in Nova Scotia but I have no idea where she may have grown up - or met Ronald." Don

Listen to these smooth talking guys THE K/NIBB/S ONE NAME STUDY) is one of the best Global genealogy sites on the worldwide Web. One of the reasons we like it, is simply because it is well laid and easy to read. We appreciate people like you who go out of their way to make genealogy informative, yet a whole lot of "fun." Please accept our global genealogy award for all the work accomplished on this outstanding site. . . CPRROOTS.COM They probably say that to everyone, of course. I picked up the following and pass it on as someone might be planning a visit. ''Please note that the Buckinghamshire County Record Office will be closed from 3 December 2001 and will be re-opening on 7 January 2002. This is due to building work. The Local Studies Section of the Reference Library should, as far as is known, be unaffected but as they will be under extra pressure during the closed period, it is important to book a reader on 01296 382550 if you intend to pay a visit.'' I've extended my web page today to include a list of K/NIBB/S events taken from transcripts of the Parish Registers that maybe of interest. These events all took place in the same Parishes of Oxfordshire occupied by my line of Knibbs but with no apparent link to my ancestors. In some locations, I find this a complete mystery, especially so for Deddington in Oxfordshire where there was a large Knibbs population over the years and just 4 baptism entries out of several dozen that seem to be unconnected. If anyone can place any of the K/NIBB/S listed I'd be pleased to hear from you. If you do find a match, I may well have more data available. The information is presented in two ways. There is one list presented Chronologically for the years 1554 through to 1952. There is a second list presented by Parish Location. The most useful events are primarily baptisms and marriages where the full date of the event is shown. The hyperlinks from any of the given names links to a page to show what else (if anything) I know of the individual. This data is available at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~knibbs/. At the lower right hand corner of the index screen, you'll see the two entries for Unplaced K/NIBB/S under the heading "NOT My Knibbs - Who are they?" I hope this is useful to someone! Don
Did anyone see the programme on BBC tv broadcast last week re a cottage in Norfolk? Someone spoke knowledgably about slavery in Jamaica but I missed his name. I want to speak to him re William KNIBB. A bit early, I know, but this to whet your appetite for research. The 1901 Census returns for England and Wales will be released over the Internet at 9am on Wednesday 2 January 2002 (at www.census.pro.gov.uk). But first much to report this week, so here goes. That George Langford NIBBS Will was a great disappointment, telling me virtually nothing new. Graham NIBBS will be disappointed but we are exchanging info re some ofhis related NIBBS. Darron KNIBBS has sent me a gedcom of his 'Cardiff' KNIBBS with over 50 names new to the database. He is related to Beverley SMITH and Pat WALKER and no doubt they'll soon be pooling their info together for the benefit of each. A friend in France received some K/NIBB/S info from a lady in Canada re K/NIBB/S in Northamptonshire. It's a small world. Two of the entries were new and have helped Joyce FISCHER and Don KNIBBS. Moral - get your friends to start searching for K/NIBB/S. Remember I mentioned some George KNIBBS marriages in the Brackley District? A certificate purchased on behalf of Jim SAWYER was the wrong one but fits into a branch of Joyce's family. Another that I had discounted on the basis of one of those queries addressed to lister Richard KNIBBS has been validated. George KNIBBS who married Hannah NIND, married not once but twice after her untimely death. The second marriage it turns out was very short because Sarah nee ALLEN also died young, within a year in fact. Brian ALLEN a descendant of her brother provided the confirmation to my conjecture. This George I reckon died in 1934 Ploughley District and as a result of our correspondence I did some checking and noted that this District grew inter alia out of Bicester and Brackley. Go to http://www.genuki.co.uk and search there for a District that you want to check. Rose-Marie also sent me some Northants K/NIBB/S from that county's personal namebase which it turns out is prepared by the cousin of the lady in Canada that I mentioned above. Very small world! I also received a message of gobbledegook, as I called it, from Rose-Marie and you may have done also as a virus has got into her computer it seems. A Badtrans virus is rampant at present and, if nobody's warned you already, let me say look out for any messages starting with an underscore. On no account open any attachment to such a message. We've also had postings from Stuart, Dorothy and Don to add to our sum of K/NIBB/S knowledge. A warden at Uvas Park in the Santa Clara County Park has told me that Nibbs Knob is named after a Henry NIBB who homesteaded nearby. He has even offered to delve further if time permits as he welcomes such enquiries which 'add to the knowledge of visitors to the park'. Moral - be as cheeky as me and who knows what more we'll discover! At the risk of boring you re that other Henry, Henry KNIBBS, a newly found descendant has been helping me by adding more than a score of individuals from his tree. A researcher in Ontario has also sent me some information about his family who I believe is related. One marriage has his KNIBBS as NIPPS which might explain why we can't find him in England but also may just be a transcription error. More investigation taking place. Meanwhile, Alex told me how his slim-built great uncle Arthur was awarded the George Cross for tunnelling underneath the wreckage of a Birmingham house hit by a bomb. He brought two girls out to safety and years later they made contact with the family. Any other similar K/NIBB/S exploits? bfn Alan [WHO?] - yes Brian, I do have a sense of humour but sometimes I'm slow off the mark!
