Don > James Waite was apparently one of 22 children! > Wow. Doubtless something special in the South Newington water. I suppose as soon as one was born, the couple just couldn't 'wait' before having another! Then they had an extra 'diner' at their table. I also wonder what was the combined 'weight' of the brood? And I thought the 13/14 of Alfred and 'Elizabeth' was going some. A propos of nothing, I'm planning to call in at the Northants CRO on Thursday morning and will find out if they have any 1901 census info available there. bfn Alan

I thought I had a pretty good idea of the Knibb families in Macoupin Co, IL (descended from John V. Knibb & Mary Ann Johnson of Leamington) till I was going through the 1920 census. First person the index turned up was: Knibb, Eleanor C., female, 84, widow, imm. 1856, nat. 1866, born Ireland. living with her were Knibb, W. Jeffrey, son , 47, single, born in IL, father born in England, occupation bricklayer. Knibb, Louisa J., daughter, 42, single, born in IL, father in England, no occupation. Anybody know where they fit in? The other Macoupin Co. entries were for F. Edward and George H. and families. -- *Marsha L. Interesting the Fardon Clockmakers -- Alan does this make any connection to Knibbs Clockmakers? Cathy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Knibbs" <[email protected]> > I received a copy of the Deddington News from October 1991 from my dad's > cousin today ... > John & Thomas FARDON, Clockmakers
For anyone who's interested, I've been contacted by Carol Van Harn, a direct descendant on James WAITE's sister Martha. Whilst I concentrate on just the KNIBBS name, in the case of females of the line, I try to establish the names of any children that they may have had. James WAITE and Dinah KNIBBS were married at Swerford but I suspect that they moved to South Newington, Oxfordshire which was James' home village. Carol tells me that James and Dinah had just one child, Joseph Frederick WAITE, born April 1866 and died May 1866. Dinah, we know died in 1869 aged just 23 years and was buried at Swerford. Further off the Knibbs track but connected nevertheless, James Waite's father Richard and several of his brothers and sisters all emigrated to Canada in about 1858. His oldest brother George was a farmer at Port Talbot before moving to St. Thomas, Ontario, where he died aged 71 years in 1903. James Waite was apparently one of 22 children! Don
Thanks Alan...I'll see what I can find on Ann and let you know. The Deddington News that my dad's cousin sent me has extracts from the diaries of the Rev Cotton Risley, from 1842. Sadly, there's no mention of Knibbs. Anyone into NOBBS? 1st October 1842 - In North Aston a respectable farmer named George Nobbs (with 13 children and his wife pregnant with the 14th) was thrown from his horse in Duns Tew Lane between 11 and 12 o'clock on Wednesday night the 28th and killed shocking to say. How it happened is not exactly known - he was in general a very steady man. Another entry that caught my eye: In September 1842, the Rev Cotton Risley's son Holford was taken ill at school. The extract from the diary goes on to say that he was critically ill, and had to be taken home to be cared for. The doctor visited him and found him to be not so well and extremely feverish - he ordered him six leeches on the temples which afforded him much relief. Finally, with regard to Alan's question about the role of family "ale taster", no, I haven't taken it on as yet. Having now shared the information with the list, and knowing that I am not alone with my connection to good old John Knibbs, Ale Taster of Deddington, there may well be others in the line who are better qualified. Don
Don > John & Thomas FARDON, Clockmakers > If you can make a connection between Ann and the above I can send you some extracts from an Oxfordshire Clockmakers book that I have which ncludes some genealogical details and a couple of photos of clocks made by them. Please count me in for a copy of the scanned article. Have you now taken on the 'ale tasting' role within th family? bfn Alan
I received a copy of the Deddington News from October 1991 from my dad's cousin today with a front page feature showing "The Old Trades of Deddington". It's quite an attractive item with graphics of the particular trade together with the names of those individuals who provided that service to Deddington. Sadly, it's not an old document, but designed to look old. Of the 10 traders identified, two of them are KNIBBS. The first is John KNIBBS, a Deddington man born and bred (1807-1901). He married his second cousin Mary Ann KNIBBS and went on to have five children. The graphics shows an old bearded man with a walking stick against which is written "JOHN KNIBBS, TOWN CRIER AND ALE-TASTER". Whilst I was already aware of him being a Town Crier, the job of Ale Tasting is new to me - a pretty good job too if you can get it! Also listed is "RICHARD KNIBBS, SADDLER". I suspect this is John's uncle Richard, the son of Richard KNIBBS/Sarah BIGNELL. Other Traders listed are: Thomas DEELY, Carrier James BANES, Shoemaker T H ("Ticky") WELLS, Drapery Store John SCROGGS, Maltster and Auctioneer Joseph & Samuel MASON, Axle-Tree Makers John Samuel HIRON, Printer, Bookbinder and Stationer Robert & W FRANKLIN, Builders & Woodcarvers John & Thomas FARDON, Clockmakers Some of the above surnames make we want to sidetrack a little and dig into families that married into the KNIBBS line. I know of connections between my KNIBBS line and the families of FRANKLIN, WELLS and FARDON. I will be scanning this article into my PC and sending a copy of it to those sharing my KNIBBS line, but if anyone else would like a copy, please let me know. Don
Alan, > Re William bap 1823 > I'm not sure now from where this info came if not you Don. I have William > bap 15 Nov 1823 Deddington > I've double checked the PR transcript just in case I'd missed him but there is no William baptised in 1823 at Deddington I'm afraid. He doesn't appear at the Niagara household in 1850 so that isn't a problem. > > Re Labourer/weaver > Thanx for the info. A mite young on reflection > if bap 1816 and marrying 1834? > The answer is NO, we can't be sure that this John married to Mary HALL - in fact, now you have drawn my attention to his age, I suspect it wasn't him. There was a John, son of John and Susannah PERRY bap in 1813 at Deddington so a more likely groom in 1834. There is nothing in the PR transcript which helps to identify which one - simply John Knibbs, Deddington. Both witnesses were from Mary's side. I think I will change my data to this other John marrying Mary HALL now that you've pointed out the age discrepancy. > > Re Emily KNIBBS m Richard HOLLOWAY > With Edwin connections I seem to recall. I'd forgotten about her also > emigrating. > Emily was the daughter of George Edwin Clark KNIBBS. No relevance to the Niagara KNIBBS as she is from the next generation of my line. Don
Hi Richard: Just spent some time looking over the census again and found another connection. George Knibbs and Elizabeth M. are also part of my tree. Alan, you will probably remember a few months ago we found a George Knibbs who married Elizabeth Mary Meads at St.James church in Akeley on April 20, 1893. At that time we wondered if there were any children. I believe this the family. And there are two children named Charles Edward and Eliza Jane. I looked up there year of birth on my civil registration listings and found them exactly where they should be as well as their second names. Do you agree? Elsie M. Knibbs, dau of Thomas and Annie, second name is Maud. Also after looking up in the birth registrations I noted that Douglas, son of Alfred & Elizabeth, full name is Charles DouglasKnibbs. Of all the individuals you found on the 1901 census the only one that I have no connection to are the Water Stratford K/Nibb/s. However, you never know we could find a connection, but I do not think so. Again, thanks Richard. bfn Joyce
I've just realised that it's not the will of Mary Ann KNIBBS (nee SODEN) that someone gave me details from. It was the will of her mother Mary SUMMERTON. I'm just hoping it was someone on the KNIBB list. Don

Richard
I notice that in my records, I've referred to some information obtained from the will of Mary Ann SODEN who married Francis KNIBBS at Steeple Barton in 1818. I don't have a copy of the will myself so I assume that I must have got this information from someone on the KNIBB list? If it was you, could you drop me a line, please? I've been contacted by one of the SODEN family who would like to know what it contains. Thanks, Don

Richard Just me again. It was another child of Thomas & Annie not George and Elizabeth. The Rosa M (13) who is a servant is also a daughter of Thomas and Annie. Richard Thanks for posting some 1901 census records. I was able to add 5 more to my tree. I only had five instead of nine childred for Alfred & Elizabeth and there is one more for George and Elizabeth. Thanks a lot. Apparently the Bucks Family History Society is in the process of ordering the Bucks 1901 census. When this happens I hope be able to order a look up for the K/Nibb/s and costing, hopefuly the same (if prices are kept the same) as a lookup for other censuses i.e 1891. The url for Patent is http://gb.espacenet.com/ Sorry about that Bridget
Hiya all, Have you searched this database for K/Nibbs inventors? If not, I had a brief look and came up with heaps of them from around the world including UK, it gives addresses of the inventors also which is handy in finding people. Thought you would find it interesting. Best wishes Bridget
