Cecil Gilbert KNIBBS perhaps if the Police Sergeant came from the Reading area? He later moved to Ashford in Kent. Also a Walter KNIBBS from Newport Pagnell was a policeman but I doubt that he belonged to the Metropolitan force. bfn Alan > Is anyone connected to PS Knibbs who was in the Metropolitan Police? According to the Edwardsville (Illinois) Intelligence for December 26, 1940, "Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Farris, and daughter Miss Rose, had as their guest on Christmas Day, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Knibbs, Medora. Mr. and Mrs. Knibbs were married on November 11, the sixtieth anniversary of the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Farris. Other guest were Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Jarman and family of near Edwardsville.
Is anyone connected to PS Knibbs who was in the Metropolitan Police? I managed to save a copy of the picture of him receiving a cup from the King for having the best trained police horse. Also a couple of articles about him and his horse at events. from the 1920's I believe. Don
A great pity that some of us couldn't get into the archives. Interestingly, the Oxford list reported similar problems. We were all trying the same web addresses but with mixed results - some got in whilst others struggled with barcodes and passwords. There were no special requirements or settings on your PC to gain access - all it needed was Cookies Enabled. I'm sure there's an explanation somewhere. Don

Just looking at the website again and it's also available today - apparently it was free for the entire week so I wish I'd heard about it earlier - its from 18-24 April during National Library Week. The address they give to tell people is http://libraryweek.galedemo.com/portal.htm. So, there's still time and I hope this link works for everyone although it's the same as one I gave yesterday. Its strange. I got the other address from the Oxford list and some people there reported the same problems with access (asking for usernames/barcodes). Good luck.
