VA post mark.sent to Jesse Roscoe Knopp, New Brighton, Beaver Co., PA Thursday night, Oct. 6th Dear Brother and All: It has been more than a year since I've had a word from you. My last letter came back. If this one does the same I expect I'll have to give up. But I'd really like to exchange letters with you now and then. We are both well as usual. Have our fall work pretty well done. Rather bad season but we have our fruit and vegetable shelves pretty well stocked with a little of most everything from garden and orchard. We have a hog to butcher and we have two dozen nice Barrel Rock pullets besides some year old hens. The latter are laying fairly good and we get 35 cents per dozen for eggs. I am working in a stone quarry.(WPA) We are allowed to make 82 hours per month at 45 cents per hour. I got a finger mashed today that isn't feeling very good tonight. We have to wear some old dirty scratched up goggles that are worse than "blind bridles" and we sometimes can't half see what we are doing. Safety man popped up today and gave me a bawling out for having my goggles down around my neck. I'll tell him some day. I had a letter from Alma some time back. She was billed to enter the hospital first of this month for some sort of operation. Her men folks were well and working. Ben has sold his new home in Parkersburg and is moving back to Elizabeth this fall. Luther is carpentering. Been working at Dunbar below Charleston this fall. Alver still lives in Reedy. I had a letter from him just the other day, - he enclosed a card from the Jackson Co. Sheriff and I'm sending it on to you in this letter. I'm keeping the taxes paid on the oil and gas rights at Frozen Camp. Well, it is bed time and I have to roll out at 5 a.m. Drop me a line if you have not busted your pencil beyond repair. Love to All, Ira
