    1. [KNAPP] English Knapps from New York who moved to Michigan
    2. Hi, Just wanted to join in here, since my mother is almost positive that her line of Knapps from Michigan are from England, not Germany (and there are certainly many Knapps who are listed in the IGI as coming from England). She could be wrong, but my grandmother (who died in 1974 and to whom I was quite close) surely would have known if these people were not English. I know that she would have mentioned it, since all the other lines we know about were from England. Anyway, maybe someone can help me with my line? Much of what I have is pretty shaky, especially the earlier stuff, so any info or corrections will be much appreciated. Henry Knapp + Rhoda Aldrich (no dates or places known) Philip Knapp, b. ABT 1812 in New York, d. 1896, probably in Michigan married 10 July 1835 in Novi, Oakland County, Michigan Louisa Phillips, b. ABT 1819 Children of Philip Knapp and Louisa Phillips (probably all born in Novi, Oakland County, Michigan): Henry Knapp, b. 1836 Wellington Knapp, b. 1837 Levi Knapp, b. 1839 Maria Knapp, b. 1841 John Knapp, b. 1845 Anna D. Knapp, b. 15 April 1846 in Novi, Oakland County, Michigan, d. 1899 in Michigan On 25 August 1867 Anna D. Knapp married William Augustus Abel in Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan. My adoptive mother is descended from this line. By the way, we're even more sure that these Abels were English rather than German. We could be wrong, but I doubt it. Can anyone find a connection here? << n a message dated 11/29/99 1:10:12 PM, Klvjjs@aol.com writes: << Notes from the History of Allegan and Barry Counties Michigan: Peter Knapp born Dutchess Co., NY where he remained until 1834 when he moved to Acadia, Wayne Co., NY and bought a farm. Died 1848. Eliezer C. KNAPP (son of Peter) born 14 April 1828 Pine Plains, Dutchess, NY. Of Scotch descent on Knapp side. He grew to manhood at home >> An impressive genealogy! But Ida, MI is in Monroe County and the over 200 Knapps there were either born there (on farms) or came from Baden, Germany. None came from Scotland nor New York of that I am certain. It is possible that Knapps of another line may have settled there in Monroe Co. as well. None of your line seemed to have settled there from your info, though. Ionia is not near Monroe County where a 'bump in the road' called Ida exists. Jean >>
