    1. [KNAPP-L] Knapps in Broome County -- tell me more!

    3. I just figured out that my Knapp ancestors born in Goshen, Orange county, NY, moved to Broome county, NY -- probably during the 1840s -- and then in the early 1850s moved on to Dundee and Starkey in Yates county, NY. Their names: William H. Newberry, who married Sarah Ann Knapp in Goshen in 1842. Sarah Ann is the daughter of Jesse Holly Knapp (b. Goshen) and Elizabeth R. Green (b. NJ). William H. Newberry and Sarah Ann Knapp had two children, both born in Broome county: Charles Knapp Newberry (my ggrandfather) and Josephine Newberry. By 1855 they were already in Yates county, and in 1865 Charles K. was 14 and Josephine was 20. It seems that Broome county is rich in Knapp history. There's a Knapp Hill near (I think) Chenango Point and an historical museum that was once a Knapp bank. My ancestors were only there long enough to give birth to two children and move on (albeit with several of Sarah Ann's kin) but I found it interesting that the place was a wagon-making center for folks going west, and my gggrandfather, William H. Newberry, was a wagon maker. I'd love to hear about the Knapps of Broome county. Does anyone else have Knapp ancestors who lived there? Which Knapps owned the bank? And what is Knapp Hill? Are there any books that discuss the Knapps from this region? Oh, and I'd also like to hear from anyone who has written for documents from that region. Thanks much! Candice Bradley Appleton WI
