Here is what I have on a New Jersey Knapp: "Hon. Manning M. Knapp, son of William Knapp, of Newton (New Jersey); born in that village; studied law with Col. Robert Hamilton, and was admitted as an attorney in July, 1846, and as a counselor in January, 1850. Shortly after his admission Mr. Knapp removed to Hackensack, N. J., and opened a law-office, where he has remained ever since. For many years he was a leading lawyer of Bergen County, possessing fine abilities, varied information, and excellent character. He is now (in 1880) one of the justices of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, having been appointed to that office by Governor Bedle in 1875." (See "History of Sussex and Warren Counties . . ." by James P. Snell, Phila., Pa., Everts & Peck (1881) at p. 190.) Perhaps Manning Knapp is a long lost cousin. Does anyone recognize Manning Knapp or know more of his ancestry? I am the five greats grandson of Abigail Jane Knapp, but she was Abigail Jane (Knapp) Hill when she came to New Jersey circa 1790. -Stephen On Fri, 24 Jul 1998 [email protected] wrote: > Hi, > > I am looking for what seems to be a needle in a haystack.
