What chit-chat? It seems to me that most chit-chat on this list is Knapp-related. Okay, so they're not all *my* Knapps. So what? I have gained from merely hanging out on the list, needless to say what I've learned when I've asked a question. And why shouldn't we chat a bit with cousins? To do otherwise would be rude, or perhaps even narcissistic. BTW, I've been baffled by a complete absence of records on my great grandfather Charles Knapp Newberry's sister, Josephine Newberry. Charles and Josephine, born in Broome County, NY in 1851 and 1845 respectively, were children of William Henry Newberry (b. 1821 Orange Cty NY) and Sarah Ann Knapp (b. 1822 Goshen, NY, a descendant of Nicholas Knapp, d. 1909 Rochester NY). I have recently acquired cemetary records from Yates County, NY. There are *numerous* Knapps in Yates County in the 19th century, and my travels around the Yates County genealogy websites have revealed the presence of many living Knapps. They are mainly from Dundee, Starkey, Penn Yan and nearby towns around the finger lakes. Many Knapps are buried in cemetaries in the above towns, particularly in Lakemont. I bought the volume covering the above towns and also the index to all the Yates county cemetaries. I would be happy to look up your Knapp relatives in the index. Yates county has wonderful information online too, including indexes to vital records, census data, probate records, tax records, and many years of obituaries in the Penn Yan Democrat. Josephine Newberry died at age 23. There is no information on the cause of death. She appears to have been childless and unmarried. This might mean that my great grandfather, Charles Knapp Newberry, was the sole progenitor of Knapps who descended from Sarah Ann Knapp. I have an obituary for Sarah Ann's brother, Charles Bingley Knapp (born 1833). He died in Yates county in 1922. Candice Bradley Appleton WI
