We have never had a problem in Illinois in looking for records. In fact 4 years ago, we were let behind the counter to browse through very old books. Certified copies were $6 and well worth the cost. This was my home county and I had lots to look up. Still didn't find Jerome Knapp parents, did find his marriage license which gave very little data. It looked more like a reciept for the fee. :) Thanks for sharing, hope it is not universally true in IL. gijoeww2@plateautel.net
