    3. Am still chipping away at one of my brick walls. I continue to seek information about my great-great grandparents, Kincade (Kingcade/Kincaid) and Mary Ann Knapp. She had a homestead in Union County, Dakota Territory (now South Dakota). IN In 1873, Mary filed payment for the homestead. She lists herself as a widow with one child (probably Harrison, born 1869). In December 1873, she had another child--my great-grandmother. In 1880 papers were filed to claim the homestead for the benefit of the two minor children of Mary Knapp (Harrison and Hulda), who were under the guardianship of Joseph B. Hunt (71 years of age.) Who was HE? According to these papers, Mary Knapp died in March 1876. Homestead records also mention that people knew her in 1871, having lived in the vicinity. There is no mention of Kincade Knapp by name, and I haven't found any records. His names comes down to me through my great-grandmother to my mother. I've always been told that my grandmother was raised by relatives, either in Colorado or Kansas. Her brother was raised by other relatives. The places vary, depending on which family member gives the information. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
