I've just got to join in on the John Knapp messages! Here's another John Knapp for which I am looking for. All I know is that he is the father of Simon/Simeon Knapp. He is listed on on Simeon's death certificate as born in Germany. No mother is listed. Simeon is listed as born in Maryland. From census records and death age, Simeon was born between Feb and Oct 1830. One census listed Simeon as born in Pennsylvania. Simeon m. Lydia Houghton in Ionia Co, MI, in Dec 1857, and died there Aug 2, 1898. Do anyone of you have any clues to this John Knapp? It is unknown is Simeon had any siblings. The marriage was witnessed by members of Lydia's family. I might as well get on the John Knapp Bandwagon. My grandfather was John Henry Knopp. Born in 1858, possibly in Illinois. Died 1935 in Hartford, Michigan. He married Catherine Yeager and they raised a family in Racine, Wisconsin before moving to Hartford, Michigan. Would appreciate any help anyone could give me. Wes Knapp
Hi Joe, I have a Frederick Knapp. This is the first I have heard anyone mention a Frederick in Ontario. My ggg grandmother, Marie or Mary Amable Knapp married Louis Dube in 1816 in Assumption, Sandwich. Her Father was FREDERICK KNAPP and her mother was MARY MARGERET ? JOUABLE or SWABB. She has a brother JOSEPH KNAPP who married Cecilia (? Bergeron) His parents are Frederick Knapp and Mary Margaret Swabb so I know I found her brother. He was born in Bertier, Lower Canada but I don't know where this place is. I have another John Knapp. Born 1810, do not know where. He was working on a steamer on the Mississippi River. Married Katherine Kunkel Coleman who was born in Pennsylvania and came west with her parents. After his death, she married her cousin John Gengerich. She died in Iowa and is buried in the West Lynn cemetery in Dallas county, near Linden. (The above information was taken from a Kohlmann family history, with a lot of inaccurate data) We do know they had two sons---Jacob and Thomas. John Knapp disappeared. We do not know where he died or was buried. We did find a divorce for Katherine and John so do not know if she remarried before he died or not? The family did not ever want to discuss John so we are not sure what the situation might have been? Some of the KNAPP descendents live in Iowa and Nebraska. Does anyone out there know anything about this John? Lorraine llafler@hamilton.net
Dear Bill, My Emma Knapp, daughter of John C. Knapp m. a Norris Davis--but that would make his son's last name Davis-not Knapp. Maybe one of their children married a Knapp "cousin" and used the Davis-Knapp combo! They married in 1877 in Central City, NE. What are your dates? You're right, there has been a lot of activity on John KNAPP. I'm looking for a John a lot earlier than those I have seen. Anyone have anything on John KNAPP born 1767-68 in Farmer's Mills East Fishkill, Dutchess Co. NY died May 1, 1870 same location. He married Nancy SHAW about 1798 in East Fishkill, Dutchess Co. NY. He is indirectly in the Nicholas line through his marriage to Nancy, she is from the Nicholas line. Thanks for any help. Hi, I noticed a lot of activity for John KNAPP. I have been looking for information on John KNAPP born 1866. We believe his middle initial was T but cannot confirm this. Second wife was Rebecca ENLOW born 1873. They had 13 children. I have all the children's names, etc., if anyone is interested. Johns first wife's name is not known but they had 2 children W. J. KNAPP born in 1889 and Minnie KNAPP born 1887. It is believed that John lived in Hannibal Missouri at one time. I know he moved to Lynn Creek Missouri later. Would appreciate any information anyone has. I know what I have given is not much but it is all I have. Thank you. Mike Knapp Knapp1955@aol.com
I am writing to you to see if there is any possible connection between my ggrandfather, John A. Knapp, and your line of Knapps. All of the information that I have on my great-grandfather is his name, John A. Knapp and a copy of his marriage liscense. He married Nancy Ann Clay Long on 25 Dec. 1881 in Montague Ct., TX. This was her second marriage. The 1910 Census (Erath Ct., TX) on my grandfather, John Thoms Knapp, states that both of his parents (John A. and Nancy) were born in Georgia. Rumor has John A. immigranting from Germany in the early 1800's but we have no proof. John Thomas was born on 3 Mar 1883 and was the only child to John A. and Nancy. John A. must have died around that time because Nancy Ann married John Powell Morgan in May 1884 in Montague Ct., TX--her third and last marriage. If the above paragraph makes any sense, could there be a connection to your Knapps somewhere. Thanks so much for taking your time to read this. Sincerely, Leana Knapp Land
"The Knapp Family in America" by A.M. Knapp is published by the New England Historic Genealogical Society for about $15. Fritz warns that this publication contains many errors and should be used with caution. Best regards, Dick
