Hi folks... I wanted to share something with the list and hopefully with some Knapp's who would find this information helpful. And who knows...maybe it will turn out to help my search in the long run. I have been involved in the research of my Knapp line for over twenty years now. We have traced our line back to Thomas Knapp who married "Martha" and who lived out the last years of his life in Fabius, Onondaga County, New York. He died around 1823 there. Living in Fabius with him and his family at the same time was Nathaniel Knapp. He is listed in the 1820 census for Fabius. A check of the deed records for Fabius shows that he and his wife Eunice were involved in the sale of some land in Fabius in 1822. This is undoubtedly Nathaniel Knapp who married Eunice Wright, and who was the son of Hezekiah Knapp and Hannah Ketchum. My information is that it was never certain that all of his children were born in Scoharie County, New York. This indenture and the census would indicate that at least those children born between around 1820 and 1822 were born in Fabius, New York. I have different sources that say that after leaving Fabius he lived in either Tioga County, New York, or Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Records prior to around 1850 are scant for Fabius as they were lost in a fire. But I think that because my Thomas Knapp and his family lived in Fabius with Nathaniel and Eunice Knapp that they were related and I am quite certain that I can rest assured now that my Thomas is from the Nicholas Knapp line. Our family's current theory is that our Thomas Knapp is a son of Thomas Ebenezer Knapp and Lois Newcomb Bearse. That would make him the second cousin of Nathaniel Knapp and could explain why these birds "flocked together" in Fabius New York for a while. Any information on these folks, or polite and constructive critiques of my theory, would be most welcome and appreciated. Thank You, --Wyattt Knapp--

If anyone on the list is researching or has done research on the following family, I can surely use some help!!! It is confirmed that WILLIAM KNAPP (1697-1770), was a son of Caleb & Hannah (Clements) Knapp, of Stamford, and Norwalk, CT. His children are as follows: William, b. 1730, m. Esther Isaacs John, b. ca1732, m. Abigail Tusten James, b. 1736, m. Esther Drake Samuel, m. Mehitable ????? Sarah, m. 1st Samuel Webb; 2d-Jeremiah Kinner Catherine, m. James Stewart Hannah, m. 1st-Gershom Owens; 2d-Zephaniah Drake [her brother-in-law] Ann, b. 1738, m. Zephaniah Drake; he m. 2d-Hannah Knapp [entry above] Abigail, m. Benjamin Drake [his 2d wife] [All above have been confirmed to be correctly assigned] The following children remain with question: Margaret, b. ca1750 [probably a granddaughter rather than daughter? Did not marry Sam Webb "The Giant"!] Jonathan, b. 1719?-1722?; d. bef Nov 1799, m. Elizabeth ????? [Ferris? - claimed as such by others] NOTE: Will EXTRACT Orange Co, NY - Book "C":164, identifies his wife & children as wife, Elizabeth, followed by William, Catherine, Hannah, Elizabeth, Anna, Sarah, Jonathan, & John. Of these children, daughter Catherine, m. "Mr Tod " [probably m. Joseph Todd, of Orange Co, NY], who had a proven son, Joseph Todd, b. 11 Feb 1765 [per Rev War Pension claim], which would establish Catherine's birth year to be between 1745 & no later than 1747. This being the case then her father would no doubt have been born 1719-1722. Research and other correspondence from various sources has confirmed all children of William Knapp, except, Margaret, who may be a grandaughter & Jonathan, but no other information, & whose birthyear of 1730, as shown in the NKG (1953), is suspect in view of the NOTE above; the information leads to the possibility of a malassignment to this family group and the data cited for Jonathan's family belongs to another Jonathan and a different family group altogether???? If anyone has ANYTHING that will help place Margaret and Jonathan correctly, it would be deeply appreciated if you would e-mail me privately or post any information to the list that would help square this family away. My resources locally are insufficent to allow me to make necessary judgements or placement. Thank you, Fritz

MAY 27, 1910 ANOTHER AUTOMOBILE FATALITY One Man Killed and Three Injured Near Sherrill Tuesday Night A distressing automobile accident in which Joseph N. Knapp, a prominent traveling shoe salesman of Auburn, was instantly killed, and James G. S. Dey, Thomas E. Clay and the chauffeur, Elliott Brown, colored, all of Syracuse, were painfully injured, occurred at a out 5:30 Tuesday evening on the Seneca turnpike near Morrison's crossing, between Sherrill and Vernon. The accident was due to the collapse of the right forward wheel of Mr. Dey's 60 horse power Franklin touring car, No. 5711. The party was returning from a shoot of the Rome Gun club. Mr. Knapp and Mr. Clay were in the rear seat while Mr. Dey and his chauffeur were in the front, Brown being at the wheel. They had made a detour around Vernon and were again on the turnpike, running upwards of 20 miles an hour. It is claimed that some one noticed that one of the front wheels wobbled and the car slowed down, but not quickly enough. The four occupants were hurled out on to the ground. Clay received lacerations of the scalp and was able to go to his home Wednesday forenoon with his wife, who arrived here about midnight. Brown sustained a broken right shoulder, abrasions of the arm and hands and injured kidneys and ligaments of the back. He will be confined to his bed for some time, but will recover. Mr. Knapp's brother, Charles Knapp of Auburn, arrived here at midnight and at 11:23 Wednesday took the body to Auburn. Knapp leaves a wife, two sons and a daughter. Mrs. Dey was advised of the accident and arrived in Oneida about 8 o'clock. She has remained with her husband at the hospital since. On Wednesday Donald Dey's son, nephew of the injured man was also here. Mr. Dey is a member of the firm of Dey Brothers & Co. of Syracuse. He is badly injured, but it is believed that he will recover, although he will have to remain here in the hospital for a week or more. At the hospital yesterday afternoon Mr. Dey and Mr. Brown were reported doing well, with no change in their condition. The cause of the accident seems to be a mystery. Dear Shirley, Seasons Greetings! It has been some time since we last exchanged information...but I do enjoy our exchanges. You are correct...the Timothy in the first post (by Rick in Thailand) was mistakenly listed as the son of Nicholas and Elinor. You are right in noting that the Timothy who married Elizabeth Seymour and Martha Weeks is the grandson, by way of Joshua. Rick realizes he was mistaken. I am going to write to "teresa" as I believe her information is in error. Timothy, the son of Nicholas and Elinor, was only married once...to Bethia Brundage. -Stephen Emery Louisville, KY GLITZ01@aol.com wrote: > > In a message dated 12/16/99 4:46:55 PM Central Standard Time, > 3187@inetone.net writes: > > << > > hi there i am from the same people the Timothy knapp that is the son of > Nicholas and Elenor Lockwood he was born Dec 14,1632 he was married 3 > timesbut not to the two people that you think let me know if you want all > the information i have teresa >> > Isn't the Timothy that was being referred to earlier not the son of Elinor > and Nicholas, but the grandson.
