    2. Len, I don't have anything on your Knapps, but perhaps you could help me with a line I'm working on. I'm trying to trace my g-g-g-grandfather, Henry Baldwin. He was born about 1830, in New York perhaps. He married an Edith Cookison(?). They had a daughter named Louisa Elinor Baldwin who married Charles D. A. Merritt. Henry Baldwin was a farmer/cattle speculator in central Ohio, near Marion. My grandmother told me that Henry was killed and robbed while bringing cattle from New York to Ohio. That's all I have to go on, so far. Please let me know if any of these names fit with any information that you have. Thanks, Jim Weiss weiss217@aol.com

    1. [KNAPP] New York Knapps?
    2. Hello List, I was at the Enoch Pratt Library yesterday. I found a family of Knapps that were from New York. I would like to know if anyone on this list has any more information on this family, as they are of the right time frame for them to be of my family, but I can't tell with such scant information. "A collection of Church Records" I think by Henry C. Peden. Mary Emma Knapp daughter of Josiah and Mary C. Knapp b. Aug 11 1843, Baptized Aug 30 1846 ( residents of New York) Henry Moore Knapp, son of Josiah and Mary C. b. Dec 12 1845 Baptized Aug 30 1846 ( residents of New York). I have a James Knapp that I cannot figure out where he came from. He was b.19 August 1836 and died 14 February 1878, on his death certificate it says he was resident of Baltimore 30 yrs, he was 41 at the time of his death , no place of birth. He married Mary E. Howard 14 April 1861 and They had William , Leon, and Augusta. He did not leave a will, I would suppose that he did not figure on dying so soon. In one of the census he was living with George Knapp and John Knapp, in Baltimore 1870. Any one out there that could look up Josiah and Mary C. Knapp, I would suppose in New York around 1825? Would greatly appreciate some help! Thanks in advance for your time. Ellen Hurdel Ehurdel @aol.com

    3. I'm not sure. On my travels if I find Knapp's that aren't mine I post them for other's. I'm looking for the parentage and birth place of John Knapp 1784 so I must sift through the net until I come up with a location. I hate to see a potential family member sitting on a web page so hence I post them.Sharing info will eventually find me John. 1. [KNAPP] Polly Knapp
    2. Leonard B. Baldwin
    3. I found in a World Connect listing that Polly Knapp, married to William Baldwin, was a daughter of Daniel M. Knapp. This was taken from "Nicolas Knapp Genealogy" by A.A. Knapp in 1953. I need some clarification. My gg grandfather, William Baldwin married Polly Knapp in 1828. She was in ill health in 1829, at which time she wrote her will (Sept. 3, if I remember correctly). In the will she listed her sister Sally as married to a Palmer, not Thomas Oliver as given in the A.A. Knapp work. She also referred to her sister Sabra and her father Elihu Knapp. I presume the Elihu Knapp (d 1864 in Ashtabula- I have a snapshot of the gravestone) listed as her brother was a proper listing, but her father must have been named Elihu also and not Daniel. She did not mention her mother or any other siblings. Can anyone straighten me out on this family? I am searching for parents of William Baldwin, Daniel M. Baldwin, and Polly Baldwin. Daniel M. Baldwin was married to Mary Withrow, Polly Baldwin to James Montgomery, and William was married to Nancy Coffin in 1814, then Polly Knapp in 1828, all in Ashtbula County, OH. I also need to know if William's daughter Caroline was Nancy's daughter or Polly Knapp's daughter, Thanks very much for any enlightenment. Len Baldwin in Wyoming BALDWINL@uwyo.edu
