I recently examined a Knapp Civil War pension file at the National Archives that turned out not to be my line, It seemed wasteful not to copy a key pages, which I'm pleased to share with anyone, so: Chauncey Knapp of Pittsford, Hillsdale County, MI, applied for a pension May 3, 1910 [actually, he already had one, this application was to make it larger]. His Declaration for Pension says he enrolled at Fort Leavenworth on Aug. 1, 1861, in Co. A, 6th Kansas Volunteer Infantry and was discharged July 18, 1865 at Devalls Bluff [no state]. A carpenter, he was born April 28, 1835, at Franklin, MI [that's in Oakland County]. Also in the file is an "Affidavit as to Family Record Entries" that lists his family (parents and siblings) as "the following is a true copy of so much of the family record as relates to the names, dates of birth [pre-printed phrase crossed out] Chauncey Knapp and I believe the same to be correct": Ebenezer Knapp, b. Hi, I have a problem and I don't know if anyone can help, but here it is. I have been looking for Edmund Knapp and have found information on his wife and family. I haven't been able until today to find out his parents, but yesterday received the death registration for Edmund Harvey Knapp. Edmund was listed as Edward Knapp and his parents as James Knapp and Marion Fowler. Edmund died in 1901 and when I check today there was a listing on the Knapp database with both James and Marion and their child's name is listed as Harvey. I was thinking that maybe Edmund was a middlename that he used, because he does have the Harvey, just not the Edmund. Does anyone know anything on his parents, as I think they both died young. I would really appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks Lynn

Hello as of now I don't have a connection to your Knapp's but you are in the right area.I have Meta Elizabeth Louise Holloway(my g-g-grandmother) born December 15, 1879 in Surrey England and she married my g-g-grandfather Matthew James Knapp born 1867 in Shoreditch,London,Middlesex,England. He was the son of Matthew Knapp born November 10, 1844 in Lamberth,Surrey,England and Charlotte last name unknown born in England. Matthew of 1844 also had the following children Louisa Knapp born 1869 and Edward (Known as Ted)Knapp born 1870 also in Shoreditch,London,Middlesex,England. Now my g-g- grandfather ended up in Canada, as the story is told by his daughter Gwendoline, because he was in a bar fight and thought he had killed a man and his father Matthew of 1844 a Tea Porter by trade put him on a boat and got him out of the country. Now Matthew James had been to New Zealand so I'm unsure if that is where he went at the time or if it was to Canada. He married Meta in Montreal,Quebec around 1899-1900.Matthew James loved to take pictures, play the piano and other musical instruments. He was also well written so we suspect he came from a good family.I have some info from LDS as to the parents of Matthew of 1844 but at this time have still found no solid proof. Matthew and Charlotte come from Matthew James bible which my aunt Gwendoline holds. Please respond as you are the first looking at the same area as me that I have run across.
