    3. Hi all, I am "under construction", but have about 700 individuals entered into the database for my new webpage. (I had a memory file error about a month ago and lost access to my old files - now I have two backup systems - live and learn.) There are about 54 Knapp entries. I have many more to enter. If you don't see your line on the site yet, be patient as I have much more data to enter. I am also working on biographical information for Nicholas Knap; this addition will be posted soon. I have just recieved a copy of the War of Revolution pension application files for Abigail Jane Knapp and her husband, William G. Hill. I will be updating there information with this new data soon. (I will also be working on the information for the children of this couple as I only have information on their son, Andrew, entered at this point in time.) On related lines, I am adding biographical information on Joshua Knapp and Jeffrey Ferris, John (the elder) Reynolds, and the Wiltsie (Wilsie) line. All have connections to the Knapp family. You can view my newly uploaded page at: http://www.uftree.com/UFT/WebPages/scemer01/FAMILY/index.htm Sincerely, Palladium Interactive

    3. I can not answer the question offically, but I can tell you from personall experience that there are a lot more Knapp's in Germany than I ever found in the UK!! I would expect that the migration was from Europe to England and then eventually to the US. Best regards. Dick

    3. I've been a member of this list for a while and thought it was time to ask for help. I'm researching my husband's family and I've been unable to find anything past his great-grandfather. The information I have is this, starting with his grandfather: William Edward Knapp - born Aug 14, 1880 - died June 19, 1925 in Clarks Valley, Dauphin County, Pa. He is buried in the Zion's Cemetery near Zionsville 1 mile north of Dauphin, Pa. He married Lola Irene Robbins on November 22, 1913 in Dauphin, Pa. They had 6 children: Delmar Augustus, Edith Elizabeth, Edna Kathryn, William Edward, Jr., Dorthory Louise, Lloyd George. After William died, she returned to the Columbia County Pa and Lycoming County Pa area where her family was located. She later re-married to a Charles Weatherill. My husband's aunts believe William Edward was involved in the timber industry. The children were all young when their father died. William's father was: Zacharies Knapp - born 1848 - died March 27, 1903 or 1908 the tombstone was had to read. (I'm guessing it is 1908 since I have a copy of a Fire Insurance bill that was paid in October 1903.) He is also buried in the Zion's Cemetery right next to William. Zacharies married Elizabeth Ferrie/Ferry - born 1856 - died April 12, 1894. Also buried in the Zion's Cemetery. They had 6 children that I know of: William Edward, Anne, Ellen, Augustus, George and Harry. There is a tombstone next to Zacharies and Elizabeth for Harry Knapp but no dates are on the tombstone. There is a marker at Zacharies grave that says Spanish War Veteran. If anyone has any information on these people, I would appreciate any help. Kay Knapp

    1. [KNAPP-L] Abigail Knapp, wife of James Reynolds
    2. Stephen C. Emery
    3. In Franklin Couch's "Genealogy of the Hill, Dean, Pinckney, Austin, Barker, Anderson, Rhoades, and Finch Families" on p. 95, it is indicated that Reuben Finch, born at Stanwich, July 19, 1772, married October 25, 1794, Abigail, daughter of James and Abigail (KNAPP) Reynolds, of Stanwich, born November 3, 1774. In the NKG there are two references to Abigail Knapps married to James Reynolds, but neither seem to "match" the couple listed above. One is F-24 on p. 46; Abigail m . Oct. 18, 1786 to James Reynolds. If their daughter, Abigail, were the one who married Reuben Finch she was born about 12 years before they were married. Another is F-116 on p. 52. Abby Lairne m. Oct. 18, 1786, George?James Reynolds. I must admit the information listed under Abby is confusing. It appears that this couple had 15 children including a daughter Abigail. However, this Abigail was b. 1796 and m. Ashbury Elliot. Isn't it odd that two Abigail Knapps married men named James Reynolds on the same day? Could it be in error? And what about the ancestry of the Abigail Reynolds who married Reuben Finch? Is anyone in the group related to any of these Abigail Knapp lines? I would love to straighten this out. I am related to Reuben and Abigail (daughter of James Reynolds and Abigail Knapp) Finch. Please give me a hand straightening all of this out! Thanks in advance. -Stephen ***************************************************************************** Stephen Emery Researching my ancestors University of Louisville Family names: Emery, Garris, Hektor, Louis D. 3. I was browsing the "National Cyclopaedia of American Biography" at the library today, and came across information on these descendants of Nicholas and Elinor Knapp. 1. George Nelson Knapp, geologist, born in Dane County, Wis., Dec. 11, 1867. (See also, H-2808 in NKG.) 2. Seaman Asahel Knapp, agriculturalist, born in Schroon Lake, NY, Dec. 16, 1833. (See also, H-380 in NKG.) 3. Bradford Knapp, College President, born Vinton, IA, Dec. 24, 1870. (See also, I-437 in NKG.) ***This is one of Seaman Asahel's sons. 4. Harry Shepard Knapp, Naval Officer, born in New Britain, CT, June 27, 1856. (See also, H-1900 in NKG.) 5. Clarence Albert Knapp, Hardware merchant, born in Green Bay, Wis., April 13, 1846. (See also, H-1833 in NKG.) If these men are part of your family line, let me know. I will give you the information on the Volume and Page number for each man. A couple of these had portraits (I can't remember which ones; I should have made a notation.) The other volumes include descendants of families related to the Knapps as well. (Including, but not limited to, Winthrop, Ferris, Wintermute (a very distant relationship), Mills, etc...) I can't speak for the accuracy of the genealogies, but interesting information on the individuals from a biographical standpoint, if you are interested in this type of information. -Stephen ***************************************************************************** Stephen Emery Researching my ancestors University of Louisville Family names: Emery, Garris, Hektor, Louis D. How about the alternate spellings of Knupp, Knup, Kenup, or Canup? My ancestors of this line used all of the above spellings (or had them used for them in census records or other official documents). 3. Laura: KNAFF is not a variable listing to my knowledge among the Knapps - English or German origins. This is not a final word, though it is a first for me. The Knapp surname is found all over the European Continent, so it could be a mutation of the surname KNAPP, though I personally doubt it.
