I saw your advice to help find a grave. I found the graves, found articles in the newspapers, but it still doesn't give me what I need. I got the funeral home that handled the burial, but they say their records don't go back that far. 1890, they say they only have records to 1895. Think they are pulling my leg? Its because the original owner of the funeral establishment was involved in some shady dealings. There was a big write up in the paper. We are trying to establish the parents of this person and there was no death certificate, just the record that they died in the vital records dept. Any suggestions?? [email protected]

Anne: I just received my g-grandfather's papers from the Nat'l Archives in NYC. It's not easy because in the first half of the 20th Century essentially any court could grant citizenship. NYC is particularly tough because of the number of State and Federal courts. I my case I was dealing with the NY State Supreme Ct, US District Ct and the Dept of Labor, but patience pays off. Suggest you try the LDS for index of NYS and NYC, they are alphabetical. Once you have the petition and volume #'s you're on your way. The folks at the Archives in NYC were extremely helpful and provided a quick turn around (<10 days) once I had my stuff together. Vince Knapp

My 4xGGM was Abigail Knapp, daughter of Samuel Knapp of Warwick, Orange Co., NY. She married Gabriel Cornell/Cornwall at Goshen, NY in 1780. They named two of their 10 sons Moses and Nathaniel, and both of these names are common among the Knapps. Neither is common in the Cornells. Surely, some of the sons were named after their Knapp relatives, and these two seem like a possibility. I'm interested, therefore, in Moses and Nathaniel Knapps who lived in Orange Co. around the 1780-1800 period. Can anyone help me? Tom Cornell

My Nancy KNAPP DAVIS and her family went to Macomb County in the early 1820s. I have been looking for relatives who may have moved with them from Genessee County, NY. Benona KNAPP is the only early KNAPP I can find in Macomb County and I would like to know whether he and Nancy KNAPP were related. Can anyone help???
