    1. [KNAPP-L] Vacation
    2. Patricia Knapp
    3. Hi All Have to unsubscribe for 2 to 3 weeks. Leaving my poor computer behind while I drive East across Canada. Have a nice August, don't forget there is lovely weather outside. I will try to do some grave searching for more long lost Knapp's, on my trip. It is amazing how you can go back to a certain point and there you sit stranded. Later, Patricia -- Patricia Knapp [email protected] Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

    3. Does any one on the Knapp list have a Levisa KNAPP? She was listed in the census as being born in KY, probably around 1800. She married (first) Thomas Hol(e)man from NC. He was in AR in the late 1820s. Don't know if they married in KY or AR. They had two sons, Joseph (b: Jan 1836) and Thomas, both born in AR. They may also have had a daughter, Elizabeth HOLMAN, who married a James L. KNAPP,1 Aug 1844 in Saline Co. AR. Don't know if this James L. was related to Levisa or not. This Elizabeth may not have been a daughter, but could have been a sister/niece/cousin of Thomas. After Thomas died in 1844, Levisa was married a second time to a TRAMMELL in AR. Would appreciate any leads you can give me about any of these very hard to trace ancestors! 1. [KNAPP-L] Re: Israel KNAPP & Beekman Patent
    2. Morrow
    3. There are several Israel Knapps and the Nicholas Knapp Genealogy appears to have them monumentally confused. As best I can reconstruct it, it appears that the Israel Knapp who was designated C-20 was born about 1710 in Horseneck. (Even the NKG, however, notes that this Israel may have been born in 1727, which would then make the next one a bit less confusing.) There may have been a second Israel Knapp born about 1727. And there was an Israel Knapp of unknown birthdate -- but unlikely to have been as early as 1727 -- who married Mary Hennion. The NKG combines these as one person, designated D-76. The records of the Fishkill Dutch Reformed Church shown baptisms of at least six children (with birthdates from 1770 to 1785) of Israel Knapp and Mary Hennion. It seems likely that this Israel Knapp is the one referenced in the Beekman Patent note. The NKG also shows an Israel Knapp (E-250), b. 1776, m. Temperance Tompkins, d. unk. At F-608 is another Israel Knapp, b. 1797, d. 1880. This Israel is my great-great grandfather and the NKG is again confused with respect to his children -- most dramatically with Emeline (G-1665) who is shown as born in 1847 when in fact she was married that year at age 19 at the Walden Dutch Reformed Church in Orange County. I'm always in the market for information that will help sort out the many Israels. 8^) Duncan Morrow -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Saturday, July 25, 1998 5:08 PM Subject: [KNAPP-L] DARIUS KNAPP In a message dated 7/24/98 2:35:55 PM, [email protected] wrote: <<Hi, I am looking for what seems to be a needle in a haystack. Or just a man with a similar name? ------------------------ Also, I read that there was a migration out of CT to New Jersey about 1667. Henry LYON was Newark's first *innkeeper* [The LYON Memorial, Families of CT and NJ. Detroit, MI: 1907, p. 58) , and the KNAPP family had some innkeeping experience, too. 2. Is William Finch, JR. on line? Strange as it may seem, I have an elusive Finch relative also. He is my grandfather, John William Finch and he had an uncle who was an interpreter in the high courts of England, named Thomas Finch. He (the uncle) was 103 and still traveling in the 1930-1960 time frame. Only remember my aunt telling about it. Somewhere in the family, either my grandfathers mother or grandmother, married an Indian, because my aunt used to say he was eligible to sign up for the Dawes commission, but his pride wouldn't let him. Don't know what that meant, but it was stupid. He was estranged from his family because they didn't like my grandmother, who had been married before. Spirit

One piece of land was purchased from .i.MacGregor, A.; MacGregor (date unknown), and another bought in 1795 from .i.Thompson, William; and .i.___, Mary; Thompson was described as 140 acres in the first division on "Pochunk" Mountain. , It was part of the Waywayanda Patent, and the original patentee was .i.Honan, Daniel; Honan. He died 15 Jan. 1834 aged 96, according to his wife's deposition. He was presumably the Samuel Knapp listed in the 1775 assessment roll for Warwick Town (District No. 8 which included the area of Mount Eve, Amity, Pine Island and down to the New Jersey line) and the 1790 and 1800 census for Warwick. , Samuel was found by the Knapp family researchers and is listed in a book of "unconnected Knapps" with all the above children. Based on the similarity of the information, it is believed they found his will.

    3. Here is what I have on a New Jersey Knapp: "Hon. Manning M. Knapp, son of William Knapp, of Newton (New Jersey); born in that village; studied law with Col. Robert Hamilton, and was admitted as an attorney in July, 1846, and as a counselor in January, 1850. Shortly after his admission Mr. Knapp removed to Hackensack, N. J., and opened a law-office, where he has remained ever since. For many years he was a leading lawyer of Bergen County, possessing fine abilities, varied information, and excellent character. He is now (in 1880) one of the justices of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, having been appointed to that office by Governor Bedle in 1875." (See "History of Sussex and Warren Counties . . ." by James P. Snell, Phila., Pa., Everts & Peck (1881) at p. 190.) Perhaps Manning Knapp is a long lost cousin. Does anyone recognize Manning Knapp or know more of his ancestry? I am the five greats grandson of Abigail Jane Knapp, but she was Abigail Jane (Knapp) Hill when she came to New Jersey circa 1790. -Stephen On Fri, 24 Jul 1998 [email protected] wrote: > Hi, > > I am looking for what seems to be a needle in a haystack.
