Any relatives out there with info regarding Nicholas and Eleanor (Elinor) Knapp? They sailed to the Massachussetts Bay Colony as a part of the 1630 Winthrop Fleet. This Knapp line later marries into the Fuller line (the Fuller's of the Mayflower) and their descendant was Elijah Knapp Fuller. I'm looking for any info including collateral lines...I see that William Knapp also sailed with his family and I've seen records of William later on with the spelling of Knopp. How if at all are these two related? I see they may be from Suffolk England. Please enlighten. For more info I what my line holds, see my website Thanks Dan Taylor The Ancestral File http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/2473/ancestral_file.html
Vince, Sorry I can't help you on Ephraim. However, my line Arron, Arron, Arron, Peter, David, George round up in Chenango county NY. Some of his descendants, for no known good reason, moved to Lowville NY about 100 miles SW of Hopkinsville while others went west. There is a summary of Vermont Knapps in the NYG&B library. I don't know if it has any information other than the three A A Knapp references you have sited. Guy Wallis, Upper Jerusalem, 18 Jim Dwire Rd, Bristol, VT 05443. Looking for corroboration of the following developed by Pat, Ernie and myself. Referneces are to 1955 Aron Genealogy (55), 1961 Aron Genealogy (61), and Unconnected Knapps (UK). Is it possible that the following Ephraim's are one and the same: 55 #111, UK #2689, and 61 #112? Nathaniel died or at least his will is dated in 1762. The Rev War veteran Ephraim was 1762-1841. Is it possible that as an infant Ephraim went to live in Norton with Nathaniel's brother Jonathan? Jonathan is the only Knapp from Norton I can find and this from where Ephraim enlisted. #112 Ephraim and three of Jonathan's sons settled together for a time in Lyme, NH. UK references 2689 and 2690 indicate a connection to Brompton, Quebec and Hopkinton, NY. In 1800 #112 and son were granted land in Brompton. The Rev War vet Ephraim died in Hopkinton w/ son Moses in1841. Opinions, darts and arrows welcome. Vince Knapp [email protected]

On the Orange County GenWeb page, I found this announcement: There is going to be an Elderhostel the week of Sept. 13, 1998 at the Warwick Conference Center, on Orange County History and Genealogy. For details: Elderhostel, 75 Federal St., Boston, MA 02110-1941 or go to : http://www.elderhostel.org/ A local historian once told me "Knapp is the equivalent of Smith in Orange County." Surely this list must include several of their descendents! Duncan Morrow
Dear Tina, I looked in the Knapp book and he isn't there, so don't have any other clues. Spirit

His name was Martin Knapp, but his mind is so muddled he was unable to tell me any of his ancestors. He finally quit. Also a few months back, Omaha had a couple young punks who beat up two guys over some argument outside a convenience store. They beat one of them to a pul and he died. His name was Christopher Knapp. I also found a man in his early 30's in Sussex England on line who is Christopher Knapp. Wish I could tie all these into my line. Shirley
Hi all, I will be in Florida for a week. I will be meeting a cousin (Knapp descendant) for the first time while I am in Ft. Lauderdale. This list is one way great way to meet your distant family. I will be back on the list when I return on August 8. -Stephen ***************************************************************************** Stephen Emery Researching my ancestors University of Louisville Family names: Emery, Garris, Hektor, Louis D. Thank you to all of you who responded to my query of Horld Eugene Knapp from NY. You have provided much information, and I am truly grateful. Sandie [email protected]
Charles and Leslie, Thank you for your replies, lookups and information. For the record, I got confused by all the Williams and Margarets and Elizabeths in the KNOPP line and misstated my query. I meant to refer to the Elizabeth b. 1657 who was the daughter of William (1610-1676) and Margaret (___) KNOPP and the granddaughter of William and Judith (TUE) KNOPP. Elizabeth's father was the brother of Anne KNOPP who married John PHILBRICK and the brother of Elizabeth KNOPP who married John BUTTERY. John Anderson Brayton got them all confused, and so did I. Does anyone have information on a (Wilbur) Harden Knapp, born 1824 in Connecticut, perhaps Norwalk? He married Martha Risley on Sept. 26, 1850, at Bolton or Hartford, CT. He was a policeman and disappeared one night around 1870. There are no further records on him. His son, Wilbur Fiske Knapp, moved to Clarksburg, Ohio and was my great grandfather. The family knows very little about Harden Knapp. David Beavers Circleville, OH

He was son of John Philbrick & Ann Knapp (dau of Wm. Knopp). No mention of him married to an Elizabeth Knopp The Elizabeth Knopp daughter of Wm Knopp & sister of the above Ann was md to a John Buttery. I havent checked my sources on that so am not sure of it. Greetings, I have one for you to ponder. Brayton, in Twenty Six Great Migration Colonists to New England, says that Elizabeth KNAPP [KNOPP], b. 23 Jul 1657 to William KNAPP [KNOPP] & Margaret DEANE, but corrected by Stott [NEHGR 147:315] to William KNOPP & Judith TUE, married Ephraim PHILBRICK of Groton on 11 Sep 1674. However, the only Ephraim in my database born before 1674 is Ephraim PHILBROOK of Groton, b. 24 Apr 1656 to John PHILBRICK and Anne KNOPP. The PHILBRICK book by Chapman says that this Ephraim married Elizabeth BARRON [before 1687 based on the birth date of their oldest child]. Since both Brayton & Chapman have known errors, and Stott doesn't mention this marriage, what should I *believe*? Could they both be correct? i. e. Elizabeth KNOPP died before 1687 and Ephraim remarried to Elizabeth BARRON? Does anyone have access to the Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire by Noyes, Libby & Davis? Are any of these marriages mentioned there? I would appreciate any answers, advice, or comments. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jack W.
